New LOTR Unit: Easterling

This unit looks WAY BETTER in Civ 3, made by Mr. Utah Jazz #7, than it did in the movie! :)

Interesting that most folks who want to use it outside a Middle-Earth setting think it looks Southern rather than Eastern. I guess that supports Kinboat's name-change urge; but really, the fault is Peter Jackson's, not utah's.

Oh, it's okay qua a movie, but it sucks as a piece of Tolkien scholarship. :)

I dont agree. The movies are awesome. Of course I am subjective about it, just like you. :)

The movies may be awesome or not, but that they suck as a piece of Tolkien scholarship is a fact, it can't be subjective.
I liked the Fellowship, but could not stand Two Towers. Much worse both for watching (almost half of the movie is one battle or preparations for it) and sticking to book's storyline (it's sometimes offending).

I'd agree that The Two Towers, the movie, was disappointing in its integrity toward the books, but I still loved watching it!

I didn't think I was putting fault on anyone.

The peter jacson movie versus the book... now, it's not the first (nor last) time that the movie is different from the book it was made. Book itself cannot work as a script for film. ;)

Well, enough of that. Who cares the name this unit bears. Everyone can rename it after their own tastes - thus everyone is happy :)

If you want to experience about the 'real' LotR story, read the books, simple like that.
The movies themselves are awesome. I didnt said that they are following the books perfectly........These are different things. ;)
Anyways Peter Jackson made and incredible good LotR world, we must admit.

Whoops, sorry, I created the wrong impression with my wording. What I was shooting for was something like: "I can understand why utah called it an Easterling; I can't understand why PJ made the Easterling look like an African." Obviously I sucked at expressing myself, and I apologise for trodding on anyones toes as a result.

The unit still kicks my pahoonies, let that not be forgotten!

Plus, sorry about providing part of the impetus for turning this thread into a "what did you think about the movie" thread...

Civ coloured easterling

For those who wank it here is the easterling with civ colours. Perhaps you want the southrons to look the same but with different iv colour for example.

All thanks to Utahjaz for making a superb unit. I've also prepared a unit with Iron Armour. Perhaps you want to use it for a mongolian or turkish pikeman, It also looks a little like the romanian knights of the dragon from the movie, "Bram Stokers dracula". (course you couldn't see what colour they were as they were only silouetes).

Armoured Eastern pikeman

Theres also a modified civlopedia image in this one.
Enjoy, & thanks to utahjaz for another great unit.

Many thanks, SM!

I have to say, this is one of the coolest units yet. He's a baaaad man!

Awesome! Smoking Mirror can you work on the undead units now? ;)

This is a realy cool imaginative unit. Tolkien doesn't mention much about them I know, but they were there. I also read that their leader was a great huntsman of the Valor.
