On another note, due to its nature I'm considering changing Kill the King to an NOTW and launching it after Zack's current one is finished, what is the core difference between the two?
Mafia:
- Talking at night is permitted
- Occasionally dead players are allowed to participate in a limited manner
- No standard set of rules
- Sometimes very basic
- Focus on gameplay; story is typically an
excuse plot
- approximately one bajillion games lined up on the queue
NOTW:
- More standardized set of rules
- Typically set in the Fall From Heaven universe
- If not FFH, almost always fantasy-themed (Backwards Logic's games are the lone exceptions)
- Absolutely no posting at night
- Absolutely no participation from dead players
- Emphasis on PMing other players and networking
- Emphasis on roleplay, story is often more complex
- Typically every player has their own alignment (separate from victory condition), personal goal, ability/item, background story, and the works
- Support votes
- Everyone's role is public knowledge
- Strength
- Practically no games on the queue
The difference between the two has blurred over the years; in fact, before askthepizzaguy came over here, the only type of mafia played here were clue games, almost extinct now. NOTW has stayed fairly constant, although the factors which set it apart have been relaxed in recent times, and it's had a huge decline since its glory days several years ago.
In general, mafia borrows/has borrowed elements from NOTW, but NOTW hasn't borrowed anything from mafia.
