ECS K7S5A PRO USB 2.0 SiS® 735 SOCKET A MOTHERBOARD - RETAIL:
13-135-126-SR.JPG

$60 USD
It has 5 PCI, 1AGP, 1 AMR (ugh), 2 DDR slots, and 2 SDR slots for memory (only one type at a time please). It has USB 2.0 but not firewire - if I need that I will have plenty of PCI slots to use for that. :)

AMD ATHLON XP 1700 RETAIL
$63

Next step is to upgrade my memory from 512MB of PC133 to 1GB of DDR266!

YoMama still thinks your computer sucks!

Wow, someone finally posted....glad it was about my upgrades.

 I think that's part of his sig....
Check his other posts, they have the exact same thing.

OK. Don't forget to tell us what it's capable of. I mean overclockability of course :p. Did you get a monster cooler with it?

Nice Padma! Sounds like some decent upgrades - I have a serious lack of funds so I had to do with a low budget. :)
I have the high speed 80 GB WD 8MB cache HDD already though.
I went with the mobo I am getting because it was inexpensive plus it takes both DDR and SDR RAM so I can wait to upgrade the RAM. Your's sounds nice with the 3 slots. 1.5GB RAM hmmmmm....

Also, congrats on the promo, Padma!

And yes, it is in my signature....thought it was funny.

I was able to do it because I got a *healthy* Income Tax refund. ;)

I only got 256M RAM to start. (Couldn't spend all the money in one place!) When my daughter gets her 512M stick, I will take the 256 she has and add it to mine. :D

And thanks, I think. :hmm: Anyone who thinks being a mod is easy should try being (a good) one for a few days. As you should know. ;)

Can it even cache 1.5 GB??? If not, you're just slowing it down :mischief:

And padma, just quit already ;)

What I've read so far there's only few options for you to tweak on that ECS board. Memory timings and rising fsb to 138MHz from 133MHz. But it's better than nothing ;) If your processor runs at that speed 11x138MHz=1518MHz it should be close to XP 1800+
