New Project Announcement: Native American Mod II

Another idea for a unit line could stealth type units like Native tracker or the Iroquois Okwari.
They could be available after an espionage type tech is discovered.
These types of units could possibly be able to cross forest or mountaineous terrain at no penalty.
They could be invisible to enemy units like an assasin.
What do u think of that?

You probably already know about them, but over the last couple of days I've been trolling the unit library for old units I may have missed & came across Steph's American Conquest conversions which feature quite a few Native American units. I've heard others complain about the quality of some of the old conversions - if nothing else there's pages & pages of placeholders there, as well as concept art for as many units.

Mainly we need desert tribe units. There is one conversion that I will use as a placeholder for the Haida Raider unit, not much of a choice there. Other than that I have alot of native americans to choose from, mostly thanks to kinboat...lol

I wish to make some of the Native American riflemen for this mod and I need your sample images.

Here`s an example of Huron Rifleman:

Sandris, what is that grey thing drapped over his shoulder/neck/chin? It's great to see you've decided to do a native American unit. :)

Very good, looks huron.

But they didn't have rifles until the French showed up.;) I know, ignor our timeline, this game will have a new one.

I will be adding this one to my game as well, can't wait.

Goldfool, actually it`s not fictional unit, it`s a Huron rifleman of French-English North American Wars period. (The Last of the Mohican).

againsttheflow, "the grey thing drapped over his shoulder/neck/chin" is a painted war body ornament.

I know it's not fictional, I thought you were making it for SoG's mod.

The huron are in my neck of the woods, there is a preserved village just north of me, a walled village (wood), long houses et al. The french Jesuits lived with the huron in that village.

And another mohawk just west of me.

I've paid to see them both.

All well and good, I guess it'll look more realistic at civ scale. Right now it looks like somebody used duct tape to gag 'im. :D

IMHO right now it looks like war paint or tattoos as used by many tribes of North & South America. ;)

The posted pic does, sure... I was going to try to come w/ something but whatever, I'm glad you think so. :)

As Goldfool mentioned Wendat is the name they Huron called themselves.

However this should not be confused with Wyandot.
Wyandot was a tribe formed by the Huron and members of other tribes which escaped after the Iroquois Conquered their cities.

I just recently started reading a lot on Iroquois history. I was quite surprised by how many other tribes the Iroquois conquered. The Huron, Erie, Neutral, Tobacco, Susquehannock and many other small tribes were either virtually wiped out or chased out of the region by the Iroquois.

BTW I like the idea of using native names for the tribes. If u want I'll be happy to work on the civ-pedia descriptions of the tribes. In each description I'll say what name the Europeans called them as well.
