New Project Announcement: Native American Mod II

I've been working on the civ-pedia descriptions for the civs. If anyone is interested in checking them out, let me know and I will upload them.

Im sure a few thousand will be be greatful to be able to 'check them' if they are included in the mod.
Is pritty pointless making a mod with so much relitivley unknown if your not attaching a defining pedia along the way.

Thanks alot turfcat!

Here's a sample of what I've done so far.
I still have a lot of civs to do and I figure we might as well Firaxes's desc. of Inca, Maya, Aztec, etc.

By the way I dl some of your icons from your library the other day. They were nice. U do wonder splashes as well?:)
I'm curious - which of my icons did you download?

So far I've only made a couple of "goof" wonder splashes: a sports one for the Aztecs, a "white man's burden" one for the SteamPunk mod, & one for culture & happiness for Anno Domini. Making them is about as simple as making tech icons.
Alright I'm going to alter the first era tech tree to include Mound-Building as a prerequisite tech to Stone Temples.
Any icons you want I'd be happy to make; it would be pretty straightforward for me to find appropriate images. I've got a lot that I have been working on for "Born of Fire" that might work for you, especially any techs focused on the "meso" culture group. One that's partially finished is "mound building".

@ Blue Monkey: I dl mostly mesoamerican icons. Most modding I do is New World stuff.
I'm working on a scenario right now on the five nations of the Iroquois.
And I probably have another of ideas I want to eventually.
I'm looking for the following wonder splashes
Portarit of Mishipizheu = some sort of hand drawing of a sea monster
False Faced Society = Natives with ceremonial masks
Kokopelli Rock Carving = A sort of hunched over flut player
Five Nations Confederacy = Flag of the Iroquois maybe

Anyways those are a few.
I'm not too bad at scripting. Civ-Pedia etc.
But I know nothing about graphics or PCX files.

Anyway I liked your icons.

SOG,
I've been labeling the civ desc. by their Native names up to now.

Does sound good to u or should I use the common names?
Anyone else have an opinion on that?

I'll look for images to work on. If I lag too long, let me know (a lot of irons in the fire).

Thanks again for the appreciation of my icons. I'm not a historian, but I've had the opportunity to do some studying with an Apache & a Tewa on traditional ceremonies, etc. Then later I helped to develop a curriculum on Native American cultures. So I know just enough to be dangerous, I mean ask intelligent questions.

Hmmm can I have a list of the native and their common counterparts? Just so I can make an informed discision? Hope thats not to much trouble. I thank you again for your work it is appreciated alot Turfcat. This is coming from someone who also appreciates the new world cultures.

@ SOG & BM Here's a few I already have. Strange enough I weasn't aware that the native word for the Apache is Dine and I think u have Dine listed as a seperate tribe. U might want to think about replacing that.

Also I noticed u have Mohawk and Iroquois.
This makes a bit of a conflict because Mohawk were one of the Iroquois 5 nations.

I think I would remove Mohawk and keep Iroquois instead. What u think?

Anyways here's what I have,

Iroquois= Haudenosaunee
Huron= Wendat
Sioux= Dakota
Cree= Nehiyawak
Zapotecs= Be'ena'a
Cheyenne= Dzitsistas
Apache= Dine
Pawnee= Chahiksichahiks
Cahokia= No translation
Chumash= Havn't found it yet

If we don't use the Native names in the Big file I think it would look good with them at least in the civ-pedia.

Let me know what u think,

I updated the file on post 143 and will continue to do so from time to time as I progress. So if u want to check out how much is done, just download it again.

I think that it would be best to use the "Westernized" names that everyone is familiar with, and put their native names in the top of the Pedia, so, for example, it would be as so:
The Iroquois are Commercial and Agricultural. They build the Mounted Warrior instead of the Horseman. The Iroquois call themselves the Haudenosaunee

I'm going to agree with Virote here, I think its a good middle ground approach, I will delete the redundant tribes from the list btw as well thanks for pointing that out btw Turfcat.

BTW the Iroquois will not be building mounted warriors as their UU in this mod lol...:lol:

BTW the removal of the Mohawks has created a new slot for a civ, any suggestions on who to throw in there?

I know; because I didn't know what their traits would be or what units they had, I decided to use the "default" vanilla terms :) After all, I doubt we'll be seeing many "Horsemen", either ;)
