New Release of Civ3?

Please "calm down". There is no confirmation from Take Two yet, and all bases on only two postings in the forum for complete mods. ;)

Well, I'm not that much excited as you think. It would help my mods if they'd release a new version, but I can do without it. I just would like to see those things in my list(or at least one of them), in a possible new release, and didn't want to forget about them. Theoretically there's always Steph's game that could have some of these at some point.

I wouldn't mind if there was a new Civ expansion and it was mods mainly(though in the afforementioned posts they talk about links, and obviously you can't make an expansion with links only; there has to be something else to fill in the space), I just might not buy it if there wasn't even one addition to enhance the game(The best prolly the events editor).

However, I wanted to tell guys at T2, if they'll make it, that there is buyers interest for it. And I have C4 too, but don't really play it much, though it's a decent game(I just like pseudo 2d that much better still). I don't think C3 is coming to an end, like pinkilatipia thinks.

We have at least three good years ahead, maybe 5+ if T2 releases something good. And if we'll get an SDK/source, even better.

Should we get a list together of what should be included in a new Civ 3 and mail it to Take 2? A kind of list of demands :). Does anyone think they would listen?

sounds like a good idea but i would venture to say that i don't think they'd "listen" :(

I doubt they would "listen". But that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, the people who have posted in this thread constitute a very infinitesimal fraction of the people who have bought/played Civ3. And we don't even agree on what should be "fixed". ;) (TBH, most of the suggestions put forth here would be a complete turn-off for me. ;))

I think most companies will listen to a degree the fans. Of course implementation of what the fans say is a different thing. They usually do what they think would be best for the game. But it's no harm expressing an opinion, you never know what's coming tomorrow.

Besides this expansion might never be, however I'm delighted to see that SSS already implemented some things i wanted, like healing units. In any event I wouldn't expect T2 to communicate with fans alot about it, the last thing they'd want would be fans storming them with ideas of what to have in the game and threatening "if this little tiny whiny bit is not in, I'm NOT Buying the game"(I know of such fans very well).

I'd imagine IF they're making it and IF they'll add something, to talk openly about it when it's almost done so we can't force them to change it to our liking(which might not be possible or too costly for them).

Like it was said, maybe it's just a re-release of a classic, with a low price and a few extras(like including mods, since unlike Net-prone countries citizens believe not everyone is ASDL or better, and Civ is sold all over the world--you have no idea to try dloding something from a PC in a cofeeshop and see you still have 9 hours of dloading).

I just like to keep my hopes up and wish for the best.

it's all well and good to include fan made stuff in some sort of "Platinum" release. however, why would i pay money for such an entity if all they're including is stuff that we can all DL for free (ie no changes/patches)? from a consumer standpoint, i just wouldn't buy it.

Indeed, it's difficult to understand such a move. However you never know, perhaps they wanted to scout for a possible market for such a product and contacted the mod-makers "just in case", so they'd be ready.

Considering the earlier packages and even Civ 2 marketing policies, every single new release had alterations and useful extras. Maybe they messed up Civ 3 with Civ 4 or something, LOL! Or maybe they want to re-release some golden package of shorts with all the versions for an anniversary?

I think the original civ was made 1992, thus 2007 it's 15 years since?(Far-fetched idea).

I think they'd be doing this for a little more income. ;) And Civ 1 was released in 1991, so we're on 15 already.

Well, I had Fallout 1,2 and Tactics but still bought The bundle with all of them, just to support the company(didn't do them much good since Iplay is now finitto as a company, maybe cause they went for the little extra cash?)

Like El-Justo said, a lot will not buy it, cause frankly, if you're obsessed with civ 3 and still would like to buy it, chances are you already have this mod, or else, of course, you'll go Civ 4.

It's a "wait and see" situation I guess. Maybe they just want to bundle it with Civ4? Ala Microsoft/Blizzard with AoE/Warcraft? I think it worked for them to. I suppose if they don't spend a dime in adding anything new, even having 1000 buyers is good for them.

They're the ones with the supposedly briliant marketing wizards, I suppose they know better what's best for them.

These are my sentiments exactly.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but what's this?

Civilization Chronicles looks for real. Can we say for sure? No, but it's a good hunch.

Ya don' t worry man your not, it was broadcast a while ago I was crying over in the C+C "golden age thread' heres what I saw: http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/07/2k...e-pc/#comments
link Canceled
No it don't look good for a beefier Civ3 we were hoping for, Still you never know, they might add something . Doubt it though they'd have to do it with all of them. Were just going to see those mods made by the communty that were annouced earlier

I know, I saw the link from you. But, the press release was yesterday, not a long time ago.

Greed...nothing but greed. They have alot of nerve, not finishing Civ3's fixes, abandonning it, then pushing out Civ4, now trying to milk the Civ1&2 cow more. I would gladly pay 50 bucks for a Civ3 addition with a more powerful editor (with additional options mentioned previously) and fixed bugs.

There was already a thread about this in the News Discussions forum...

I was also approached about a month or so ago about the inclusion of Anno Domini in a re-released version of Civ III - not by Take Two, but by Firaxis. To cut a long story short, they wanted to know if it was 100% free of copyright material; I told them that to be honest, I couldn't give that assurance - there were tech icons and leaderhead backgrounds that came from images on the internet and buildings that were screen grabs from other games. I explained that as a hobbyist, I didn't have the time to do them all myself - but that most other mods would be in the same boat! They told me that they would not be able to include my mod due to me not being able to give that assurance. I was just chuffed to be asked actually ;) .
Although I wasn't told this directly, I got the impression it was purely a re-release, not an updated or patched version.
