I couldn't find a Civ 2 introduction thread, but I just wanted to formally introduce myself as a long time Civ 2 player (since the 90s). Been reading these forums for a long time, but thought that I would take the time to actually post. I play Civ 2 only on MGE and have been since I started. Look forward to good discussions with everyone on Civ 2 strategy and game discussions.

Welcome!:clap::band:[party]

Hi, I am also a longtime civ 2 player, since the 90's. I find it amazing that I still play civ 2 MGE, that the only game I play is Civ2 gold MGE. What a gem!

Welcome to the forum! :D

(I'm the resident Test of Time player who loves setting Dwarves to work building mines in the Cloud World and sending Buteo units swooping through the Underworld and the Merfolk realms)

Another new here.

Played since 90's. Never tried TOT thou. Somehow I never heard of it until now. Checked out some videos from youtube and the graphics and sounds are not for me.

Iwe had long breaks, but somehow I keep getting back to civ2. Last time after a break I felt I need my civ fix :) So I tried to play civ 5. Spend lots of time on steam forcing me to do some updating (i just needed a fast fix of civ). After the updating I realised the game is too sluggish and not fun to play.

Then I tried civ 2 and here I am now again. Played it now through with couple of different strategies.

Welcome Caravaner. You should join the ongoing GOTMs. It not only enhances the fun but also lets you learn the game a lot better.

Thanks.

Yes. I will try them out someday. I read some of the GOTM threads and I did not yet fully understand what they were about. But what I did understand it seemed like fun :)

GOTM 140 will be posted soon (within a week). Keep an eye out for it and join. The only way to learn is by doing it.

Welcome. :)
I also started in the 90s, with Civilization AGA (suped-up Civ 1 for the AGA-chip Amigas).

Hmm, civilization on amiga. I got some vague memories that you had to watch about 30 minutes of the world being created animation before you could start a new game :) At least on amiga 500 without AGA.

In that way civ 5 is following in the footseps of civ 1. 30 minutes of forced steam updates before starting a game :)

And I thought the minute or so I had to wait while the Amiga 4000 created the world felt like an eternity!

(The AGA chip is not the CPU (which creates the world), it is just the advanced graphics architecture. The CPU in my case was Motorola 68040.)

30 minutes is maybe a bit over exaggerated :), but I remember that no other game had that long loading times. Civ was ahead of time then.

I checked it out:

I think it is on emulator and it takes 3 minutes. Well, long time for a kid that can't wait for even a minute. :)

If it's emulator on PC, it is probably some sort of Intel CPU and unless it's a very old Intel it should create the world faster than the Amiga did. I think.

Welcome Doc Dirhed. Our moderator, Magic Gorter, has been very busy lately. It is going to be some time before he catches up.

I know it's based upon your post count. But 2 weeks is long enough. Can't wait to play your scenarios.
