New Unit: Cueztecatyl Soldier 2.0 (9/7/2006)

Since you've decided already to remake this unit, I will share this with you. In the hopes that you will take heart from it.

This was my first attempt at a spear attack in poser. The attack is fairly straight. It dips down slightly and rises up on purpose... a attempt my the troll to skewer the orc or what ever was silly enough to stand before him.
Now, while this is a rough draft it does show what I was saying.
A good attack is not a pipe dream. It can be done. It is not hard.
You simply must pay more attention to the details. Quality counts for more than quantity in my book. I want very much to be able to use the units you're making. They're clever and imaginative. But, they are also typically flawed by rushing them out the door before they're ready.
What bugs me about the troll attack is a slight wobble in the spear thrust. Also, my intentional hook in the attack (from low and rising) seems to have introduced an optical illusion where the tip of the spear bends upward.

I will come back to it once I finish my Norseman. And, yes I did render him over sized so I could see what was going on with the attack. At normal scale it was hard to see, but something about it was bugging me.

Could you share your animations so I could use them for my future spear units? I have Shiro's as well but options are always good.
You want my beta versions of the troll animations?
They are not stock, I just made them up in Poser... only took a few minutes... except for the attack that took me an hour and still not quite right.

Bjorn, that looks amazing. I think the attack would be better, though, if you had him pull back further in the run-up to the thrust, and then make the thrust itself faster. He'd look a bit less diffident about it then.

[Sword of Geddon] If you want a stock spearman attack, use the one in utahjazz' tutorial. It's pretty good and can be altered without much difficulty if you want variety.

Holy crap I want that troll.

just to let you know, we're not being mean, we're just trying to make you a better unit maker :) i hope you don't think were being cruel, we're just being a little harsh to try to bring out the best in you :)

Did I not say this like, four times?

I'll see what I can do to have him draw back further. It is about as far back now as the model will allow me to do without distortions.
But, in thinking about it, you are spot on about the actual thrust being too slow. If I cut 1-2 frames from the thrust, this would really make it flow better.

@Goldflash, I will be releasing him, just not today. The only animations left to do on him are 1. Fix the attack, less wobble, faster thrust. 2. add a death anim. 3. Cobble together a lumbering run anim for him.

I hope you do more human units after the troll. That beserker guy looks great. We need more human unit creators.
I imagine I'll make a few more. I got alot to learn about Poser though. Thus far I am finding it generally easier than Bryce, but I still prefer Bryce (which is far from hard).
Bryce 6 is coming and will allow some poser animations and stuff to be imported completely. So, I thought it was time to get off my butt and figure out Poser.
It is not so much that I intend to move away from vehicles, but I want to be able to do both. And perhaps both together.
