New Unit: Hospitaler Knight

Finally it is here. Now one thing to figure out, what civ would use this?

If
Greeks = Eastern Cataphract
Byzans = Byzantine Cataphract
Romans = Roman Cataphractari
Persians = Clibanari Horseman (Kinboat's Cataphract)
Germans = Teutonic Knight
French or Norse = Norman Knight

Then who get's this knight variant? The English or French?

Because at the time Normans were conquering Europe, they were French-born, French-speaking Frenchmen, with Norwegian granpas.

Exactly. I would rather like to give the Norse the Norman Knight and wait for somebody to make a French Chevalier for the French. It would also be another good idea to make The Knight's Hospitaler a wonder and have it create a Hospitaler every 5 turns.. that would be a good alternative as well.

About the civs which should use it: Some time ago I read somewhere on the net that of course Templar and Hospitaler order were international, and had knights of many countries as members. However the templars - was said there - were mainly of French origin and the Hospitalers were often Italians or English. Not sure how reliable as a source this site was, though.

Great unit, BeBro!

No clue which civ is going to get this unit in my never-finished-hardly-started personal mod, but dammit he's going in there somewhere! :D

Correct on both counts -- international and powerful, so much so that the French suppression of the Templars is still the stuff of conspiracy legend.

BTW, Bebro, did you think about giving us the Templar Knight as well?

Actually Kinboats crusader with a red civcolor is the Templar Knight, which it was also modelled after;)

:( Oh man, he brings tears to my eyes; he looks a lot like my long lost lego knight. Thank you, Bebro, for his safe return. :thumbsup:

Yes, but the cross should be slighlty different

mm..really? i put the model on flicster and didnt see any color change as i cycled through the civ color....maybe im just blind..

Well, just tested it again, works good here. Best to test it is in the eastern or western direction, but it should be visible in all other views too.

Well you can say the same thing about all the Firaxis units;)

That's not because Firaxis units are not historical that others should be the same

WOW- this is developing nicely, and I dare say that I like the Hospitalier even more than the Teutonic knight (must be the colourfulness).

:goodjob: My 2nd favourite Civ2 Scenario comez to life in Civ3 (the first one is, of course, Imperium Romanum ;))

Well no, but my point is, such details arent very important as most players cant tell the difference anyway.
