New Unit - Napalm Bomber / Chemical Bomber

the superfortress was used for napalm, but only for certain situations. take vietnam for example. when it needed to be dead accurate and hit charlie in some bushes or on a battle field without hitting your own soldiers, you would need a small low flying plane. for a village or suspected area with charlie, a b-52 would do just fine.

Well, be fair, it wasn't just "Well done on your X unit" - he did have a question. Although I'm a bit puzzled by it. The unit does look different from other units - that's why it's a new unit! Or was, back in 2002.

I'm puzzled too, this guy might be on to something very deep and profound, what separates this unit from the others, other then appearance? is there an essential feature not readily detectable by the eye? Is there some bond between us and the abstract creations? A truly magnificent line of thought..

Very interesting. The perceptible qualities of the unit have changed, but does it follow that what makes the unit what it is, its quiddity, has changed? Does it mean that what distinguishes this unit from others, its haecceity, has changed? Do we have a brand new unit here, or simply the old one in a new guise? If it is new, then at which point did it become new - when the first pixel was changed, or the last? Since a unit is a type with many tokens, perhaps any qualitative change entails quantitative change. Or perhaps we have here a Civ equivalent to transubstantiation: the qualities change, but both the essence and the substance persist.

Oh, and it's not just a recolour - it's got extra engines added.

Yes, I did base this bomber off the civ3 bomber. Mine is grey, not green, and has an extra engine on each wing. I based this plane off of a picture of a b-52 superfortress I saw in a picture. It said that the B-52 was used to drop napalm, but many people have been sending me pictures of smaller planes. I may redo the plane to make it a smaller one.

For some unknown reason this is one of my fav units. Not that it is exceptionaly made or anything ... i just can't explain it. There are several very old units that were in my mod 2 years ago and that i kept just because i like them.
Another one is the common warrior but with a sword. I like that too, although it doesn't have all the fancy stuff of the new units out there.

Well discussing this bumped unit thread from an esoteric perspective is a fun thing to do while we await a certain mega huge WW2 mod with 1000+ new unit animations, but I'll stop now.
