New unit: Roman/Hellenistic Siege Quinquereme

You still need a land unit with the amphibious ability, iirc you can't enter a city from the sea, even if it is undefended.
Really? That sucks! I guess I was just remembering back to Civ2 or something. Oh well, good to know, thanks for giving me the heads up!

*sigh* -- I keep looking at this beauty and thinking, "What if it had treads?"

-- There was an "alternate history" novel with the Roman Empire surviving into modern times -- sadly I cannot recall either title or author -- without competition, these latter-day Romans built just that sort of "land battleship" ...

... Any takers? :hmm:

Is anywhere similar to this naval unit a land unit? Romans were well-known from such wheeled-towers and I'd like to find it somewhere.
Just to collect some ancient units and make a big scenario ;)

I believe Aaglo is going to make this into a land unit too, but that won't be for a while, I guess. Apparently he's on a bit of a "vacation" now. :)

By the looks of his sig, it's in queue.

Ozy the name of the book you were talking about was called the New Barbarians by Kirk Mitchell

Ah! Thank you, Thorgrimm  -- Do you think my imagining this beastie with treads comes near fitting the bill?

Best,

Oz

It would be spot on as the cover of the book has what looks like a trireme with a huge gun castle, with treads on the bottom of it.

Uhg! I can't get it to work. Here's what I did:

Specify scenario search folder: "Basic Israel" (sorta odd for this unit, but still...)
Go to PediaIcons (in Basic Israel/text/PediaIcons.txt), and add in: "#ANIMNAME_PRTO_Macabee
Enkidu Warrior
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_Siege_Quinquereme
SiegeQuin
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_Three_Man_Chariot"

(included two next to it for clarification...)

and I got a cannot find file (in the game):

"Basic Israel/text/PediaIcons.txt
ANIMNAME_PRTO_Siege_Quinquereme"

Folders to animation in Basic Israel:
"Art/Units/SiegeQuin"

What did I do wrong?

BTW: I got this after a built my first one, and I made the fortify animation "SiegeQuinDefault", as well as default being "SiegeQuinDefault".

You should check if there are any additional 'spaces' in {HERE} (there shouldn't be any spaces there) :

#ANIMNAME_PRTO_Siege_Quinquereme{HERE}
SiegeQuin{HERE}

And also re-check all the spellings (in the editor, ini-file and txt-file) - for the additional 'spaces' too.

Uhg! I can't get the icon to work. I put the image files into the folder with all of other other units, and did this:

#ICON_PRTO_Macabee
art\civilopedia\icons\units\x2_Endiku civpedia lg.pcx
art\civilopedia\icons\units\x2_Endiku civpedia sm.pcx
#ICON_PRTO_Siege_Quinquereme
art\civilopedia\icons\units\SiegeQuinLarge.pcx
art\civilopedia\icons\units\SiegeQuinSmall.pcx
#ICON_PRTO_Three_Man_Chariot
art\civilopedia\icons\units\X2_3ManChariot civpedia lg.pcx
art\civilopedia\icons\units\X2_3ManChariot civpedia sm.pcx

So, shouldn't that be the right icon? Well, I keep getting (in the qeue, haven't checked civilopedia yet, but's it's probably okay there) the icon of the one I have it set to in the editor (destroyer). How do I fix this? I can't edit the icons sheet, and there is no icon that correlated to this unit. What do I do?

Thanks in advance.

By the way, my Basic Israel mod will feature this unit:

A.D.M/B.R.ROF: 2.1.2/4.1.1

A little strong, but all civs can use it. Upgrades to frigate.

Those are just the civilopedia icons, you have to add the right icon in the units32.pcx to get it to show up correct in the build queue.

Ozy: I didn't change how they have it. I have not changed the file name of it in the following screenshot, look it up yourself:

Endiku.jpg

mrtn: How to you edit it? I can't find any "paste" option. Please help.

Firaxis has been crappy at spelling from the start.

Gogf: you need to have the right graphics software that can edit palettes. The most used are Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop.
