New Unit Squid

Or that Nautulis submarine from Jules Vern's novel.

First...it's a octopus. Squids have pointy heads :) Looks nice though.

As a natural counter unit..how about dolphins? (Red Alert 2! WHOOT!)

Yes I know it's kind of a cross between squid an octopus (I think I mentioned this somewhere) because it has an octopus body, but I gave it 10 arms :) It's my own personal mutation :)

This is a great unit and was featured as a surprise unit in Gotm16-Rome (February 2003).

We have now added the unit as a standard unit feature that could be included in all future GOTM games depending on what would be appropriate for the game design.

The version used in the GOTM games has sound files configured to make the unit fully functional just by installing the "squid" unit folder that is included in the download zip package.

You can dowload the to complete current unit pack for the "kinboat" squid version that is used in the GOTM's including the sound configuration and installation instructions by clicking on the link below:

Civ3 GOTM version of Kinboat's squid complete with sounds

Thanks again to Kinboat for a great unit. :goodjob:

Perhaps the only missing pieces that could still be improved would be to get a fortify animation that would smooth the transition between the swimming phase and the attacking phase. Since these units are usually used as barbarian features the barbarian AI usually keeps them moving around, so a fidget animation would have little function in most cases.

Yeah, if I wasn't so busy right now I'd probably remake it... (it was actually my first unit) maybe sometime in the future, then I could fill in those little gaps.

looks great i'm gonna try to use it if i can.

Yeah, I'm not much of one for keeping up on current threads, but I like Kinboat's units (I think I've dl'd most of them). I must say 'Great job' even if belated by a number of years.

In how many threads have you posted pretty much the SAME EXACT THING today? Please, spare us your spam.

Gordon Bennett...

"[...]born in 1841 and known as Gordon-Bennett, who really captured the attention of the US and European populace. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he took every opportunity to live life as a playboy; his wild lifestyle and extravagant spending gained him notoriety in high society. On one occasion, at a New Year's party (1877) being held by his fiancee's father, he got so stupifyingly drunk as to mistake the fireplace for a toilet and proceeded to urinate in front of his prospective in-laws and their guests. Other tales include the occasion when, annoyed by the bulky roll of money in his back pocket, he burnt the lot in an impetuous fit. There are many more tales of his outrageous and extravagant behaviour, however not all cast him in a bad light, such as the numerous times he would donate large sums of money to charities."

Sorry to be bumping such an old thread, but I was going to use this unit in my FF mod as the sea barb, only to find that none of the files here had pedia or units_32 icons....

Therefore I made my own.... The pedia Icons come from a photo of a table-top game Kraken figure on top of simulated water, and all I did was to pull a bit of editing in PSP to make the figure look like it was actually in the water. The Units 32.pcx I made by taking one of the frames from the attack animation, re-sizing it and applying the appropriate pallette.

Anyways, here are the squid's icons:

Yeah, but this works better for a Kraken from the FF mod (most pics of kraken look just like Kinboat's model, as well as the tabletop figure from which I made the pediaicons).

Here are my files I adjusted from the original files long ago and have been using for the Squid.

included files:
Sounds, Large and Small pcx files, units_32.pcx (civ Specific color) and .ini file.

...thought I would upload them in case anyone wants or needs these files for Kinboat's Squid. All game tested.

here is the zip:
