I'm home, where are you?
I said I'd do this ages ago... Well they've finally arrived :D 15 small units designed like my Great Wall and Palisade units to be preplaced by the scenario creator as defenses. No movement, low defense to slow down a major invasion not stop it out right.

The swordsman in the preview was originally supposed to be another corner trench connecting the two sections but I made a spelling mistake in the INI file so it still showed as a swordsman... and I was too tired and lazy to correct it for another preview shot :D

Hey, thoes are Excellent, KB! What is up next?

I'm sure they'll be very useful.
Good job Kinboat!

How about:

0 maintenance
0 movement
0Attack and 0 defense
0 range bombard
bombard of say 4 or 6 (small)
Maybe in the ini a sound for attack one (maybe barbed wire rustling, or a yell of "man the trenches" I dunno)
remove disband (or not, if not, perhaps require maintenance)

Any civ with the tech that allows this unit can capture these trenches.

Why would you want these to be captured?

YOu wouldn't would you?

Then your enemies could use the trenches you had set. But destroying trenches is relatively difficult in a retreat, I would think.

Also removing the defense values would take away the strange look of trenches having HP.

But giving it a 0 defense would make them captureabel

Exactly... just like trenches in the real world. If your troops abandon, or are all killed, this leaves the trenches unoccupied, until more soldiers fill them.... be it friendly or hostile.

French troops leave their trenches to assault German troops in trenches.

German machine gun destroys French unit. Leaving the trench the French left open.

Germans peek heads up from their trenches, see empty French trenches, and run over, hop in and set up machine gun in French trench... aka capture the French trench.

but the the entire trench is useless :o

No, it gives a bombard defense bonus, if inhabited by a unit. Without any units in it, it is useless... but I never heard of a trench with no soldiers in it win any battles in World Wars I or II.

So, with Attack1 set to play a .wav that says "Man the trenches!",

A German tank assaults the Frech rifleman in the trench.

Manthetrenches.wav is played, the German tank loses a hit point.
(trench bombard successful)

The German Tank then destroys the French rifleman and captures the trench.

On Frances turn, France counterattacks with a rifleman.
Manthetrenches.wav is played, this time the trench is German, attempting to cause an extra HP of loss against the French Rifleman

The Frenchrifleman takes a HP of damage, but then re-takes the trench his comrades held earlier.

It might even be neat to have the trenches fly a little civ-specific waving flag as their default animations so if it is empty, you still no who owns it... (even though it is harmless when no stacked with any other units)

Great work Kinboat, and I think Neomega's idea sounds quite sensible. cool idea.

That's an excellent idea Neomega... I couldn't figure out how to have them stay on the map and it was sort of bothering me :D

I'd give them a fairly good bombard so you are almost assured of a hit. Maybe even give them an increased rate of fire so they have a chance to really wound (maybe even kill) the attacker. After all they would only get that shot once per turn so a determined attacker could sacrifice a junk unit and then swarm with their more powerful stuff.

Also, you should take off the Disband and Requires Support buttons, too...
