New units: Warhammer Orc pack (Apr 22nd, 2005)

Warhammer Orks aren't the same as LOTRs orks. WH orks are a force of nature, while LOTRs orks are twisted elves who were twisted by Saurons master in the early ages of the Oldworld. The orks bred by Saruman were big and beefy because they had been mixed with humans and were canibals to boot. Mordor beefy orks are shaped by selective breeding to be tough angry and big, and realy realy stupid. :) Of course some orks, especialy those who live in independant colonies are not selectivly bred and are weak and foolish, often called goblins.

EDIT; Those units are great agglo, they realy capture the look and feel of the warhammer universe. Thanks to you the next update of the warhammer mod is going to be the best civ III mod ever! (and a realy big download!) ;)

I know the diff between WH and LotR orcs
and i think WH orcs should stick to their roots as what I described in my prev posts.
That Black&white in my 2nd post was a WH orc.
not a goblin mind you, but a true orc.
WH orcs only got beefed up to cater to little 12 yr old boys who are by their natures interested only in big badass looking minis.

All those minis i posted were also by Citadel which owns Warhammer.

anyway if all orcs are huge beefy looking dudes then what's the point of a Black Orc (the big, black beefy version of the common orc)

Well, I think WH actualy had a good idea with it's change of style for orks (and all the other races, I bought my first copy of White dwarf about 1988 and they've all changed a bit since then). It helped to identify WH as a brand, seperate from the other fantasy minitures available. It also helped give players more choice, I think eventualy you'll see orks and gobbos as seperate races within the warhammer game, just like vampire counts and tomb king armies have seperated out from the old undead model line.

Black orks represent the elite of the ork army, so even if the other orks are prety beefy (a move I think that first originated in the WH 40,000 orks, which have always been pretty musclebound) the black orks are a kind of "uber-ork" or "ork stormtrooper".

Also I think you shouldn't lose sight of the fact that most WH players are teenage boys, so it wouldn't be economicaly sound not to cater to them. :)

can you do any other races from warhammer, some skaven would be really awesome?

aaglo has done Trolls, Dwarves, Beastmen and so on. ;)

He isn't interested in Skaven though, I think LizardmenRules! is trying to get the Skaven put together.

eh. The difference between LOTR orcs and WH has more to do with economics and media than anything else. LOTR orcs looks like a human in prostetics because that's what was practical when making the movie. Since WH orcs never have been seen on film and are only drawings and miniatures, Games Workshop has been able to develop orcs into the ipitome of every quality modern man frown apon. They have no neck and always stoop, a sign we see as weakness, something very hard to pull off when doing make-up on actual humans. WH orcs are much bigger than humans, also hard to pull off when producing movies. I think that Peter Jacksson would have made his orcs just like the GW orcs if he could have afforded it, (except the colour of their skin, which Tolkien had clearly defined as black, the racist bastard he was).
