so, to answer your Q: they do get GAs, they sometimes sem to WANT them and thus start wars with UUs - or hold back on them.

dsirirueng: this is especially helpfull if you have Great Lighthouse, since then they can't come for you but you can find them.... But be carefull, sometimes you make one of them exremely strong - if he overruns the others :D

TO Lt.`Killer` M.:
FIRST, I`m a girl but I am not American, so I don`t know the meaning of "pouting".If I did or said something I hurt the feelings of anybody here I ask my excuses.I am not being sarcastic, but saying what i really feel.
SECOND, I love CIV3 so I thought it was a good idea make a Microsoft Agent from one of the animated units of the game and have it in my desktop, helping me all the time in my PC. I asked if anybody knew how to make it possible, to TRANSFORM a unit from the game in a Microsoft Agent.I waited for three weeks and, people said they didn`t know the answer.I did not complain it because I understood I was WRONG, so i apologise for that.
THIRD: Thanks, Scientia & Dran for your words, I do appreciate.
and yes, i gave my e-mail address and asked help from people OUTSIDE here when they had a free time to do that.
Thanks, MadScot, you are right, I am wrong, so once more I apologise.
That will be my last post from some time, I don`t know if I`ll keep coming here after that,`cause I was really resented with
what happened.Thanks for all.

I think Dran wants to know if an aqueduct will be needed BEFORE he builds a city there. The way to check if a 'coast' tile is fresh water or just a regular coast is to right-click on the tile. If it gives 2 food, it is fresh water. A normal coast tile (without a harbor) gives only 1 food.

I also do this sometimes when I'm not sure a tile is considered to be on a river or not (like when the river ends/starts around a mountain). If it's has a river next to it (free aqueduct) you will see 1 gold from that tile (0 if it isn't on a river), this is of course assuming the tile isn't already roaded as the road will add 1 gold.
Wow, this is great information that I never knew (like when my first scout finds water - is it a lake or the sea?). Can we add both of these to the FAQ so it doesn't get lost in this thread? I can see myself forgetting this, and then never finding it again. Thanks, Bamspeedy!:)

does the AI ever stops building settlers? (russia, china......) specially in th emodern world, i take over a bunch of cities form france, their borders get smaller and here come the chinese settlers to take over the land!!!!!! also if i control a whole continent and there is a square in the coast outside my influence settelrs keep comming for it, i dont let them by making them leave, but sometimes they land there w/ a ship, and is anoiyng to put units to block those spaces, this is the thing i hate the most about the game :( any tips?

There have been Qs on how to assign a starting position in the editor - here comes the answer:

open the file you want to change. in this example, i want to assign the jungle tile to Rome:

startingpos1.jpg

right-click the tile:
startingpos2.jpg

choose properties.
startingpos3.jpg

check starting location, then click OK
startingpos4.jpg

right click again, choose reassign
startingpos5.jpg

choose the civ or random, then click OK

done! :D

the Ai usually has a few settlers in reserve.

if you are using 1.29 the Ai will usually not settle unless there are three squares or two diagonal squares free... are you still using 1.17 or so???

Shirannybl: no problem, ask whatever you want - just don't be disappointed if we cannot answer! We sure try though! ;)

Hi all,

I remember from previous CIVs that if you had a visit from a foreign unit at one of your cities then anybody working on whatever square this visitor occupied would get turfed out and put somewhere else. A real PITA since this could screw up your carefully planned food/resource/commerce plans. Does this still happen in CIV III?

Richard

oh, btw, richard D: congratulations! You are one of the very few newbies who actually find the correct thread to post questions like yours! You just made me very very happy ;)

Great thread guys/girls:)

I've got a few question of my own:

- What would be the maximum number of cities I should build?
- Which wonders should I absolutely have?
- Should I actually focus on wonders or rather on cities? (or something else)
- Very often the first contact with a civ will result in the leader threathening me of I do not comply to his/her wishes. I always hesitate, because I think it makes me weak and he/she will come back with a new thread. Is that so???

Thanks;)

Aggie: as many as possible. That means pack them according to your corruption situation, not too claso on huge maps, rather tightly on map with lots of water and little land.

wonders: none. Not a single one is a must, it all depends oin playing style. Sun Tzus is neat, as are happiness wonders, as is Leos....

Look at the map: if you see you can trade/capture many luxuries, then you can concentrate on other stuff than hanging Gardens and Sixtinian. If you see that happiness will be a problem, get them!

do not focus on wonders until you have expanded as much as possible

if they do so, you are militarily weak. ignore far away threats (folks whose archers have such a long distance to march that they'll reach you when you have Knights already), do try to avoid these situations. Often, paying up, then building military, then going to war on your terms is better than getting into it when not prepared...

aggie are u from collage station TX?
here are some answers, the number of cities can be different as corruption increase w/ teh difficulty level (i think) but 12 to 16 work ok for me.
the wonders i really need are teh piramids and most wonders are good.......well maybe the great wall is not a very good idea..........
i concentrate on both, build wonders in the big cities and improvements in between (dont forget defence units)
and teh leader question.......mmmh.....look at ur advisor if u outnumber them dont pay tribute, if they are too far dont do it either. also alliences work sometimes ^_^ not pro answeres but i hope they work.

edit- ooops someone else asnwered u while i was writing, oh well
