stalin006: What do you mean with 'aggie are u from collage station TX?'

Thanks both of you. I like like those different views on the same subject, since I'm a complete newbie regarding civ3. I won on the highest level with Alpha Centauri, but civIII is a different ballgame....

It appears to me however that the opponents don't have a memory as long as in civII and AC. Am I correct???

Other questions:

- How significant is the culture on higher levels? Is it easy to conquer a city this way?
- Aren't the battles randomly determined anymore, like in civII and AC? In these games, you could always save a specific situation and if you would lose the battle, reload..... that's how I won on the highest level:D
- How far apart should I build the cities? Is the cultural influence a factor in this?

Thanks again.....

aggie: they carry grudges forever..... so do not break deal or go warmonger :)

cultural level: good for a border fight - i.e. plant cities close to enemy / in between enemy cities, then hurry culture buildings. aside from that, culture gives a major headache in wars by means of culture flips...

if you start a new game there's an option called random seed remembered or so. uncheck it and you get a fresh go, check it and the number used to generate the result is stored with the save.

your cities can use the same 21 tiles as in Civ2. so usually you should try not to get too much overlapnor to leave tiles empty.

That is the worst thing you can do! They trust you and help you and you betray them - go figure.....

not really, but the are supposedly then very wary of the rascal... supposedly... it seems them AI doesn't mind AI treaty breaking, but only human.

" Lt. 'Killer' M.:

Eliminator: then the *.bic is protected. Try starting anew file, then choose File-->Inport-->map (and rules ands whatever). Now, it should work. if it doesn't, mail me the file and I'll give it a go..."

"Level : Did you click change or right click on it and click reassign?"

Lt. Killer: I have selected a new map...............and can't find file ------> inport (u mean import i think) ---> map ect.

I didn't draw a new map yet! but i but some grasslands in the map to test it if I could give a civ his starting location.
Now why is this so hard to understand 4 me ??

Eliminator: I don't know what the problem is......

Try this: open the editor

choose new file

cadd one tile of plain, grassand or jungle.

then do as detailed one the last page 8with the screenshots). Tell me exactly what it is that doesn't work for you.....

I didn't find this question in the FAQ so I'll ask it here:

Is it possible to zoom in/out in Civ 3?

I hope so because otherwise the unit graphics are not really impressive.

I've been playing CIVIII for about a week now - I'm always behind the times when it comes to playing computer games - and I've run into a situation playing the GOTM #10. I have several cities that show population 6 (I guess they are actually towns). The little countdown thing that shows how long before the next population growth shows "--" on all towns with a population of 6, and shows actual turn numbers on all the towns that have less than 6. Is there something I need to do to convert the town into a city? Could it be because the towns are close together and have no room to expand borders? Some of these towns have granaries, and plenty of food.

Is it possible to transform land like in Civ 2?

for example from tundra to desert?
You can transform riverfront tiles to flood plains with the use of nuclear weapons. When you nuke territory it degrades down to desert. Desert tiles on rivers are flood plains. Voila!

Other than that, no terraforming.

To grow above population 6, the town needs to be next to a source of fresh water (lake or river) or must have the aqueduct city improvement. To grow above 12, a city must have the hospital city improvement.

two things in the editor i dont understand...in the difficulty level section: max transition time and cost factor
