big sorry, thanks.its so embarrrassing, but i can play the game

i would like a confirmation about this.

Does a great wonder became obsolete only and only when the owner aquire the technology which obsolete it ?

It would explain why i saw a.i. galey move 4 ( he got great lighthouse), even when I discover magnetism. So the great lighthouse willl be obsolete when this a.i. discover magnetism. I though it was a bug and didnt pay attention to this but if this is the general rule then it s ok.

max transition time = max time for government change for non-religious civs

cost factor: all costs for building something will by multiplied by this factor.

You can open the Help file of the editor when you are on that screen. it will give you a clickable duplicate of it that shows explainations in pop-ups. usually they are sufficient.

Sorry to bother you but I have some questions:
May someone else asked this before, but I can't find the answer.

1)Is there any way to get an AI city, besides going into war?

2)How can we know the difference between a river and an ocean tile?(so my ship will not be lost, always happens this with me! )

3)is there any way somebody can see all the map(or a great part of it) right in the beginning of the game?

4)Is it possible to minimize CIV3 window(during the game) like in CIV2 ?
Thanks,

You can try trading for a city but I've never seen this happen successfully. If you are powerful enough, you can demand that an AI give you a city (this could lead to war). You can also subvert a city through propaganda after you have espionage and have built the CIA (costly and low chance of success). The final way is culture flipping. The most sure-fire way is to take the city in war.

2)How can we know the difference between a river and an ocean tile?(so my ship will not be lost, always happens this with me! )

I believe you mean coastal, sea and ocean tiles. If you look closely, you can tell that they are different shades of blue. To be absolutely sure, right click on the tile and it will tell you what type it is in the terrain information box.

Aside from editing tools, retire. This invalidates HOF and GOTM games, however.

Not like Civ2, but you can use CTRL-ESC and then click the show desktop icon in the quick launch folder of the task bar (if you're using Win9x). If you want to switch between applications, use Alt-Tab to cycle through applications that are active.

Edit: spelling

An apology if this is a really stupid newbie question. I’ve only been playing for a week and I’m hooked. The next step is to quit the job, divorce the wife and sell the kids so I can concentrate on mastering this game.

My question is about the Great Leader. Finally got one last night. I’ve read the manual and reviewed the GL thread on this site. I took him to a city with barracks, had more than 4 cities in my civ, had four military units in the same city as the GL; thought I had all bases covered. The GL was activated so I clicked on the build army icon and…………nothing happened. All four units still act independently and the great leader is doing sfa. How exactly do I build this army with the GL? And how do I kill a useless GL as he is stopping me from getting another one, which I could at least use to rush my Great Wonder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Once you click on the "Create Army" icon, the leader is gone and an army is there instead. Activate each unit in turn. With the unit active in the same tile as the army there will be an icon just like when you load a unit onto a ship. Load each unit into your army. Your new army will only hold 3 units. Once you have 3 (?) armies you will be able to build the Pentagon small wonder and your armies can then hold 4 units.

Note also that once you put a unit into an army you cannot later take that unit out nor can you upgrade the unit. The army as a whole will travel at the speed of the slowest unit in the army.

No stupid questions are possible in this thread.

After you create the army (you just need a city no barracks necesarry AFAIK. You get a dude holding a flag. You then have to load units into the army. Which can be done anywhere. Its The icon wth the arrow pointing into the top of the box. The unit must be stacked with the army to load it. 3 units max per army unless you have the pentagon.

Oops Shaitan beet me to the draw:eek:

Hey all, just wanted to add to this. When you are at war with another civilization and they are desperate for peace (usually happens in a fairly long war that isn't going well for them I think) you can demand cities in return for a peace treaty. You can sometimes demand everything available on the trade screen, so that they are left with nothing but their capital city. Depending on the location, you can then sell the city to another civilization (the one you just got it from is probably too poor). Often civs don't want to buy cities though, for some reason.

I find this useful because in a long, dragged out war, I might not want to waste the effort and time taking over a couple more towns. When a civ is getting wasted I notice they often build in places far away from their usual area (possibly because they have no more room within their border if mine are expanding into theirs). These could be good additions to your empire, but unless you have rail, it might take too long to move a mass of troops into position. These towns are easily traded for in return for a peace treaty.
