You can try trading for a city but I've never seen this happen successfully. If you are powerful enough, you can demand that an AI give you a city (this could lead to war). You can also subvert a city through propaganda after you have espionage and have built the CIA (costly and low chance of success). The final way is culture flipping. The most sure-fire way is to take the city in war.

Trading cities was no longer allowed several patches ago (too easy of an exploit). With 1.29f you can no longer demand cities, EXCEPT when you are ending a war and are asking for the cities as conditions for the peace treaty. 1.21f allowed a 0-turn war, where you actually declared war, but was able to sign peace the same turn in exchange for peace, without actually firing a shot. 1.29f eliminated the 0-turn war.

A few additional tips on Armies:

After a victorious battle w/ an army you can build Heroic Epic, also after discovering Military Tradition? you can build Military Academy. After building Military Academy you can build armies in that city & do not have to rely on a GL for an Army.

Not sure if you need the Military tradition or just have heroic epic, to build Military Academy as I usually get both of these done around the same time.

Heroic Epic is NOT a prerequisite for Military Academy

Can I make my thread "sticky"?...I doubt this is possible unless I'm a staff member but I just want to make sure.

Sobieski:

I thought that Military tradition was the prerequisite for Military Academy, I just wanted to clarify that I wasn't 100% sure, thanx for clearing that up:)

You're right- only mods and the admin can make sticky threads. :king:

I got problems with the copy of civ3mod.bic

I renamed it and the icon became a white page with the programm-window-icon.I don't like that icon,it means you can't open it.I can't open it,i can't rename and i can't suppress it..".that programm is already used by another programm, you can't suppress it".

I didn't change anything,closed everything.

I loaded the copy,which i renamed civ3mod.bic2,into civ3Edit and i got another problem...I can't read the bottom of the page when i custom civs,etc.

The screen has 800X600 pixels and when i Try to get 1024X...pixels,the screen gets black, gets 1024X... pixels-but I can't do anything, then gets black and gets 800X600 again.

PLEASE HELP!

You have to manually move the files to the correct place in the Civ3 game folder.

For example, if you want to add some new terrain, you have to copy the files you downloaded to the c:\program files\civ3\art\terrain folder (or something similar). You know it's the right place if the system warns you that you are about to replace an existing file (which of course was the intention). It is always a good idea to back up the replaced file if you for some reason want to revert to the original files.

Most likely, you have changed the name of a unit. Each unit must have an art folder with the same name or the game will crash when that unit is built.

During an on-going game, how can you determine what level at which you're playing (ie, Regent, Monarch, etc.)? I'm supposed to be playing Monarch, but this game is going WAY too easy for Monarch. V.1.29f. Thanks.

If you save the game, then reload it, you will get a box that includes the difficulty level. Or did you mean literally during the game?

I'm about to try your suggestion right now, Soldier. Is there, however, a way to check the level literally during the game?

Torakami:

Yes, you can keep playing after 2050 (the end of the game) but you can't win after that & you will not recieve any more points in your score after 2050. Currently there is no way of changing this without hacking into the code (which I strongly suggest you not try)

There are a couple of code hacks on this forum - I think. Completed modpacks or something. I'd like to download at least Apollo [tool to prevent winning culturally too quickly], but the outlook of searching through thousands of posts has totalled me.

Actually, it does still compute your score. My score rose dramatically after ending it - I did not get into the Modern Ages before 2050. But Future Tech was not counted. I wonder if it's because that the game code is somewhat not quite right.
