Ah - got you! Thus if I want to jump my palace to newly conquorer territory I'd better take a shed load of workers!

Thanks very much both of you (anarres and MadScot). Much appreciated. Oh and I think I'd meant to write 'Palace hopping' not flipping, but it was very late!

Darkness, be advised that the behavior of the interaction between "Ask for build orders after unit construction" and "always build previously built unit" has changed between Vanilla 1.29f and PTW, and the change is not for the better. In Vanilla 1.29f, if you had both options checked, you'd get the popup with the same unit already suggested for the next build (which is how it should be IMHO) but in PTW you will not get a popup in that situation -- "always build previous unit" completely overrides the "ask for build orders" preference.

Yes, the change is not for the better, they broke this with one of the early patches to Civ3 and then changed it back to the way it should be, now it's stuck with the broken behavior again. When you play large/huge maps, it's more fun to go back to Civ3 1.29 that piddle around with the broken system, none of the improvements in PTW make up for this one poor step backwards.

i have a question concerning downloading custom units...once you download a unit and put them into the correct folders will they be in the game automatically or do i have to do something to play with them?

when was civfanatics founded????...just curious

From the About Us section off the main page:
In the beginning, CivFanatics was a small personal homepage hosted by Geocities (1998) and then at Xoom (1999). The old site title was Civilization Fanatics' Page. After we moved the site to Strategy Gaming Online in March 2000, the site was renamed to Civilization Fanatics' Center. The CivFanatics site you see today really started after the move because server space is no longer a problem. We didn't have a downloads section and forums before the move.

1. Do civs ever trade or sell you cities? I try to get them to do it every once and a while, but they never seem to take the deal.

2. I tried last night to start a PBEM game to make sure I'd be able to do it for an upcoming game I have. I was successful but it asked me to type in an administators password. I did this, then it ask me for a regular password. I did this also. But why would I even need to enter an administators password? what does having the administrator's password set do to the game? When will they ask me for the administrator's password again?

thanks,
Ben E. Gas

Because of exploits, the AI was changed in an early Civ3 patch to refuse to accept any deal with a city in it.

The only exception to this rule is giving cities as part of a peace treaty, and giving them away for free.

When you are at war with a civ and they are loosing badly, they will give you cities for peace.

I signed a MPP (mutual protection pact) with India. A few turns later the Aztecs attacked India. I am automatically at war with Aztecs. I take an Aztec city. A few turns later, before the MPP's 20 turns are up, I make peace with the Aztecs. My reputation is:

(A) Just fine. Of course if the Aztecs attack India again, it will be war all over again.

(B) Just fine, but only if the Aztecs had no troops in India at the time of my making peace.

(C) Trashed.

Another reputation question: If you make a military alliance with France against Russia, but don't actually send any troops, is your reputation damaged? If so, how about if you only attack one Russian unit in neutral territory?

AFAIK (C)

Your reputation in the France Russia case is not damaged

My vote is (A), I'm pretty sure about it too.

I reserve the right to be wrong though...

I'm pretty sure it's (A). You upheld the MPP and joined the war. It doesn't force you to *stay* at war, though.

Of course, if the Aztecs attack India again, and you are drawn back into the war because of your MPP, your rep will still be trashed, because you will violate your Peace Treaty with the Aztecs when you declare war again.

;)

(1) The zulus are furious with me. Ridiculous: they are the one who started every war against me by walking in my terretory, asking for money, alliances with the rest of the world.

(2) I challanged the greeks for a war by placing troops in their terretory. They asked me to leave but I said no (I wanted a war) so they delcared war on me. Is this bad for my reputation. The Aztecs think it is a bad and they say I am a liar etc.

What question are you asking here? Read AI Attitude by Bamspeedy to see exactly how attitude is arrived at.

There's the rub. The actual message you recieved was 'Remove your forces or declare war', not 'Remove your forces or I will declare war'. Since you didn't remove your forces you were the one to declare war.

The same goes the other way round. If you demand they leave or declare war, they either have their troops moved outside your borders, or they declare war on you.

(1) When my city is finished producing a unit it always changes production to another unit. How can I prevent that. When my city is finished producing a unit I want it to continue building the same.

(2) With how many knights shall I launch an attack on a powerfull Japanese empire. 20? 30?
