I found that the AI plays a different game when (mass) regicide is switched on. They build a lot more units to defend the king.

Does the AI also react on other victory conditions? Will they for example be more agressive and have other research priorities if only domination and conquest are allowed?

Are defensive bonuses compounded, or just cumulative?

E.g. A fortified warrior being attacked across a river has a defense of:
a) 1 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.1 = 1.6, OR
b) 1 + 0.25 = 1.25 + 0.31 = 1.56 + 0.16 = 1.82?

I suspect it's the former, just as with science bonuses.

Edit: Oops, forgot the 10% plains bonus:blush:

Edit2: JMK points out yet another permutation. So which is it?

Let me guess
1 * 1.25 * 1.25 * 1.10 = 1.71875
1.25 for being fortified
1.25 for being across a river
1.10 for defending

Sorry if someone asked this before, but how do you change the difficulty level of the AI on hotseat multiplayer mode. It seems stuck on regent. Thanks in advance.

cromagnon: check the Civ3 combat calc (linked to in the FAQ). that on is correct.

Mike23: never tried to change it. maybe that in the *.bix file..... but you SHOULD be able to simply click where it says Regent and change it.....

Thats just it. Their is no area no area where it says regent in the game. You can't change it that way, AFAIK. If their is a way to change it in the editor, could somebody please show me how.

Original was correct: 1.6

New Question:
I only recently learned (thanks to MadScot) how to put images in a post from another web site. How do I get one from a file on my computer/desktop?

There are two ways to put your own pictures into a post.

1. Attach the file. At the bottom of the "Post reply" screen, just above the "submit reply" button, is an attach file box. Hit the "browse" key, find the file on your drive, and it should end up in the post. Note the limits on extensions and file size, especially the latter.

2. Upload the file. Even lower down, near the bottom of the page, is a link that says "Upload File" (It's virtually the very bottom of the page). Click this and a new window opens, allowing you to browse for up to 3 files at a time. These get uploaded into the civfanatics server - currently it's the third folder in use. Then to include those pictures, treat them as you would any other web picture, using the "IMG" tag. The upload window gives you the path name, and also lets you review the upload folder to check your name is correct for the file.

Easy :)

Shucks - beaten to the draw again!:(

I won a cultural victory (even looking for conquest) and the game said
Error Reading File
text/pediaicons.txt - Romans_loved_large (or something)
What can it be?
Thanks beforehand!

Currently playing on standard map, warlord (yes I'm still a newbie), everything random. 5 civs are left standing and only France and the Aztecs (me) have any real slice of territory. I'm in front on everything but the military advisor says we have an average military compared to the French (we both have cavalry, riflemen and RR). Currently in democracy. Every body hates me except France. We have a mutual protection pact that expires in 8 turns. France has a collection of about 6 cities surrounded by my empire (we both attacked china at the same time as it was getting squeezed between us- Joan went south west, I went north east and then due west cutting her off)- then we bump together on my northern border. I plan to win by conquest or dominantion.

I've read numerous times of people getting a target civ to declare war on them rather than vice versa. To help hold down war weariness (and because I've not done it before) I would REALLY like France to declare war - How can I get them to do so? Every time she sets foot on my patch - I tell her to move and she does. Any other suggestions?

Well, since you've got a MPP it's not very likely that you can get Joan to declare war on you. No espionage yet, correct? Espionage is always great for irritating the AI.

If you want to piss them off, build a city in their territory, or with at least some overlap. Beware of CF though.

There are 2 restrictions on withdraw, AFAIK :
_ other unit is a fast one too
_ Unit has already 1 hp when attacked

But why do my cav keep running themself to death on riflemen, longbowmen etc. ? Maybe 1 in 8 attacks withdraws like they should.

I believe that cavalry has 50% chance of withdrawal. But they won't withdraw if they've damaged the enemy afaik (or if the enemy's down to one point)
