Newbies Succession Game

I must thank everyone that has posted. I was a bit wary about how successful this might be because I thought it was primarily experts in this section, with three city challenges as such. Hopefully, us SG rookies will make it that far before too long. Now for the personal responses.

Yom-If your playing on Emperor, your probably a bit too far ahead of the curve. However, if we manage to learn quickly, and bump up the difficulty, then you may get a chance to join us. Right now, we're sitting on 5 people, with only two spots left.

Genghis Kahn-I'm going to take a group vote on the difficulty level, and we'll go with whatever it is. We'll have to see how we stack up with the acerage succession game.

Smellincoffee-Good work on the computer.

Matt_G-I'm glad to help the board in any way I can.:crazyeye:

Resistor-Get ready to rumble.

Constantine-Welcome

kryszcztov-Yeah, we need to decide on the group name, or if we're going to go with your Training game, or both. I think I'll form my group, but we'll still use your acronymn or whatever for our training games.

4 Big Decisions
1)We need to decide on the name, now that we have five guys, so why don't the members submit a name they like and we'll all vote.

2)We need to decide a difficulty level for our first game. Just vote for one, and we'll go with the majority.

3)What version are we going to use? I think conquests is out at the moment, but let's make sure. Just list what versions of vanilla, PTW, and Conquests(1.00-obviously) you have, and what your preference is.

4)We should also consider what type of game conditions we want.

Keep an eye on the top post of this thread as I'm going to update with new information until we are ready to start our first game. ANd, for the moment, membership is still open.:p

Decision 1-

Well, any name you guys want is fine.

Decision 2-

Warlord or higher

Decision 3-

I want to use PTW. I have the latest version(I bought the Gold Edtion package, so I'm guessing its the most up to date).

Decision 4-

I say standard everything. No need to make it all crazy, let's start on normal everything first.

:egypt:

I have the following versions of civ 3:

vanilla civ 1.29f
PTW 1.27f
conquests 1.00

difficulty level: i would be happy with warlord, but if people want to play chieftain than thats no problem.

name: not great at making up names at the spur of the moment but maybe New Beginning or Dawn of Power.

sorry for double posting, i forgot the preferred version would be PTW, and Conditions, maybe conquest or space race for victory, and standard everything else.

Silly me, I forgot to put in my suggestions:eek:

1)Name suggestions-

1a-Newbs: The Next Generation
1b-Los Conquistadores
1c-The Assimilators---Since we will be assimilating information.

Yea, I suck with names.

2)Warlord works for me.

3)PTW works for me. Our "trainer" is more experienced with it. We can move to conquests, at a later date, preferably after the FP/Corruption problem is fixed. Otherwise, I would have voted Conquests.

4)I really don't care too much about the settings. I only know that I definitely don't want the 2 largest size maps. Anywhere from Tiny to Normal size is fine. And I would like our first game to be a conquest or domination. Its not terribly complicated, and would be a nice warm up game. Also, a militirastic civ would be good for this purpose.

I'm going to modify my first post again, so be sure to check it out.

Resistor Make sure your PTW is patched to 1.27f. It looks like it will be the version we'll be playing.

PTW lastest patch for me. After this game most everyone will have C3C. I dont just yet but will be soon.

Warlord is a good level to start IMO.

As for a Name

The Merry Band of Newbs.
Newb. Inc.

Just throwing them out.

Sounds good I would like Rome as a civ. Never play them much. But everything else looks good.

I started a thread over in General Discussion for voting on our name. We'll see what the Civ community thinks. In the meantime, lets begin our own voting for the name right here in this thread.

My choice is: The Merry Band of Newbs

We should also give some consideration to turn order, and how many turns we take at a time. I think the standard is 20 turns to start. And I know I want to lead us off to start the game.

Turn Order:
1)Sandrock LQ
2)
3)
4)
5)

Fill er up.

I'd like third if possible.

Im staying with my fiance this weekend as its our anniversary [party] so if the game doesn't start before friday then please skip me until monday.

If it starts before the weekend then id like to go second if possible to make sure I get to play before I go.

sorry if this causes any problems.

I like the name merry band of newbs, if thats what everyone else likes then its fine with me.

Turn Order:
1)Sandrock LQ
2)SolarKnight
3)Constantine
4)Resistor
5)Smellincoffee-by default gets the last spot.

No conflicts on the spots. I could start this up on Wednesday to ensure SolarKnight has time to get his turns in before the weekend. We'll have to see what Smellincofee has to say when he checks in.

kryszcztov -Any comments on our game settings, o fearless leader.

Are we gonna be Japan still?

Someone in the other thread suggested "demi-gods in training." I liked that one.

We can change from Japan to Rome, shouldn't be too big a deal.

what an excellent idea, good luck guys and gals, this site and SG's together can certainly bump you all up a couple of levels (it did me)

I would recommend using the STANDARD map size rather than the SMALL size. Most SGs tend to run on STANDARD or larger. I'll be glad to chime in from time to time with advice, and I would recommend a few reading assignments first, namely "Cracker's Opening Play Sequence" and a few of the training games of old (shameless plug to follow), perhaps EG1. Happy Civing!

Demi-gods in training does sound good.

I think Rome would be good for a conquest win assuming we get iron, then we could get legionaries and go on the offensive early while the other civs are still relatively weak.

If culturally linked start is on i think it will mean we will have more chance of a start near carthage or persia instead of japan when we may start near mongolia or korea.
