I ususally sleep at night !

OK guys, I had written my answers here, but the Internet connection messed, and the post was lost. I don't have the time to type it all over again right now. So I'll wait for tonight.

That's a pain in the ass when you lose a whole bunch of work and information like that. BTW everyone, I have updated the first page again to reflect the changes we have made. I'm going to try to put up a screenshot of our starting position, most likely I'll do it tonight.

I've attached an image of our starting position so we can discuss it. Before I get to that, a question. If smellincoffee only has plain vanilla Civ3 v1.29f, are we going to switch to that? Hopefully he's got PTW, but if I remember correctly, he said he was going to have to play at school for the time being.

Now our start position.
1)Sadly, no rivers in sight, although there might be one to the south. but it could be coastline.
2)Not many special tiles, but we do have an Ivory and 2 shield tiles.

I wonder if I should settle on that spot or move towards the coastline. Anyone have an opinion?

Yes, Sir ! Make your images smaller !!! :D Check in my games to see how I do.

Otherwise let's rewrite what I had to say...

I like the name you have. You could start a thread for each game you'll play, using a title like "DGITxx - Demi-Gods Romans vs. Warlord", but as you see, I suck at names too. You could keep this thread for your first game, or leave it for general information about the series to come. Your call.

As Speaker said (a great (RB)Civ player), read cracker's site, it's got a lot of useful stuff about the early game. Standard or small size for the map : I don't matter, though a small map could end quickly on Warlord, because you're gonna beat it so easily ! :)

I don't like Culturally linked on, but it's my personal opinion. your call again. With this option active, you'll always meet the same foes if you play the same civ all over again. Option off, and you don't know who is hiding behind the fog (OK, there is still the F10 option in PTW, but it adds variety).

I suggest you played accordingly to the civ. Here with Rome, you'd want to go warmongering, and to profit a lot from the gold you'll get in the end of the game (trade...).

About your starting position, once again I don't have time to say anything right now, but what if you started another game in another thread ? With culturally link off. And standard map. And try to upload the image, not attach it to the post.

Also I usually play with the RBCiv rules. Check them through my link if you want to hear from them. More on that later.

OK, I'll be back later.

Situation update: school's going to be closed for Thanskgiving ( ), I won't be able to play civ. I think I can still get 30 minutes or so on the library most days, however. (I was once there for three hours before they noticed me...)

Shall we get an update roster? Maybe Smellincoffee should be put towards the bottom?

So...

Check the RBCiv rules (through my link), to see if you want to play accordingly to these rules : they are meant to have nicer games, where we don't fool the AI with stupid moves (like RoP rapes, or scroll ahead feature...). Tell me all if you want to use these rules, because that's my style of play. Otherwise I'll have to adapt, and it could get boring a little.

Also, if you could at least post all the settings of the game in one post for a reference...

That said, do you still want this starting position (out of nowhere) as your 1st game ? Your call, guys !! :D

For the turns report, you should detail as many things as possible in the beginning, because of the nature of the series. And 10 turns per player would definitely be in order.

EDIT : Here is the link.

I'll take any challege. I don't mind this starting position. Its like 5 guys playing the same game. If we put our heads together no starting position is a bad starting position. Most of us got our own strategies probably already set, I mean we are not complete newbs to civ right? I'm just a newb to succesion games thats all.

Ok...lots to cover, so here we go.

Issue 1-Images: I agree that I should have resized that picture. I will do so when I start the thread for our first game, which I will do shortly after I finish this post. As far as putting images in posts, should I have used the <img> tag instead of the attach file box? Doesn't the <img> tag require the picture to be on a website?

Issue 2-Game Thread: As I just said, I will make a new thread for each of our games. I'll keep the name simple, probably close to what you suggested kryszcztov. I will post the link to that thread in this thread as well.

Issue 3-Cracker's Site: I have read it, and I'll probably give it one more look before I start with my turns.

Issue 4-Difficulty: I also sense that this is going to be an easy game, as I have beaten Warlord via conquest before. However, that was against one opponent. I think that this game is more to get used to a succession games, than anything else. Has there ever been a succession game where it was everybody's first SG?

Issue 5-Game Options: I intend to play many different types of games, with all different types of options. The only option we may never use is Chieftan Difficulty.

Issue 6-Rome: Once we get the Romans special unit, I think we'll be set. The fighting is actually the smallest of my worries. We'll see what happens.

Issue 7-RBCiv Rules: I read that, and for the most part, I don't try to do any of the things that are "dishonorable", but I may have done them without knowing before. Let's see what happens with this first game, and we'll see if we want to fully adopt the rules. Still, it is neat, that there are people who try not to cheat.

Issue 8-Smellincofee: As of right now, you are in the last slot, so your turn likely won't come up till Monday, next week. Also, do you have PTW?

Issue 9-Settings: I have all the settings listed in the first post of this thread. I will post them again, when I start our 1st game thread.

Issue 10-Turns: 10 turns a person sounds good to me.

Issue 11-Start Position: I'm gonna stick with the small map and this start position. It will give us at least a small challenge, trying to make our capital city grow. I believe I'm going to build on our start spot.

Did I miss anything?

Also, I have AIM if anyone wishes to chat. Username: SandrockLQ

That is the best way to do it. You will notice at the bottom of every page a 'upload file' link. This will bring up a window in which you can browse the directory structure of your computer and choose a file to upload. You can upload 3 files at a time.
Once you have the file uploaded you can open the uploads directory (Uploads 5 right now) and you should see your file at the top of the list (or very close to the top). Right click the link and click 'copy shortcut'.
Now click the img button and you can paste the link into the message that way. Voila, you're pic is in the post.

This is also the best way to post save game files. The only difference is you use the http button instead of the img button.

Posting saves and pics as attachments can cause server problems.
Hence the upload feature.

One more note on this subject. It is standard practice to use a zip program such as Winzip to zip up save files before uploading them. Some games have suffered from corrupted files by posting .sav files. No one has ever had any problems (that I know of) from posting zipped save files.
