For a deity game this saw quite a high proportion of victories - 17 out of 26 submissions – so I’m guessing the Islands map type helped quite a bit. I’m sure it’ll come as no surprised to see Duckweed in gold position with an incredible 1210AD conquest victory. Jaybone followed with an 1836AD domination (and the cow), and – somewhat unusually – the bronze medal went to a spaceship victory - in this case for Jastrow, in 1785AD. Despite the deity level, every victory type was not only represented but represented in the top 10. Well done to everyone – deity is always tough whatever the map type, so I bow down before all who even attempted the game, whether victory or not.

Here's where everyone settled.

I was slightly surprised given you had the map of the island how few people moved far from the starting spot (ie. Jovan Kukic and noone else!) For what it's worth, the spot I mentally marked out as where I'd probably have chosen was the tile 1NW of Jovan Kukic.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Way to go, JB!

Duck, I'm really disappointed in your slowest conquest victory:rolleyes:

150 points from a green ambulance... so close... :D

I noticed I was the only one to go adventurer... I guess I intend to stick to adventurer until I actually win a few games

I think most players SIP because no one wanted to risk spending turns against deity AI...

Congrats to all who submitted, deity is no picnic.

@Duckweed, taking the challenger save as well. :worship:

The strongest leader HC and unsuitable AIs were major reasons as well. Warmongers are dangerous in mainland map but sucks in inter-continent invasion. Financial and peaceful techs will perform better in watery maps.

Thanks for this fun map. The idea of revealing the map was great, which was good to bring more discussions in pre-game thread and drew more brave souls.

Ah, In fact, that's the lowest score shield, matched perfectly with this:lol:

Good job sossos, it was uneasy to take the culture from jesusin. The spaceship date was quite good as well.

Congratulations!
Very fun game, I loved the initial visible island.

Congratulate to all who submitted the game. It's good to see that all victory type appears this month.

@Duckweed

Thanks.
As conquistador 63 mentioned before, the rating may play a more important role in deity games. If more players can play deity game in GOTM, there will be more samples to help find the most reliable strategy statistically.

Congrats to all of the medal and award winners. I wasn't able to play this one but it looked like fun.

Special congrats to my SGOTM teammate, Jastrow, for another fastest Spaceship victory. Now I know why you've been so silent in our team thread... :mischief:

Grats all. Duckweed's game ... holy cow!

I did found my 2nd city there (the square you indicate, not Jovan's), and ultimately I considered it my de-facto capital (built Oxford etc there). But it strikes me as a bad move to put initial (true) capital there. That's not a good site without AH, and so if you had any hope of getting GLH it was a non-starter. Not only turns moving, but lose more turns going for AH before GLH-enabling techs. Jovan clearly didn't care about GLH, given his site was not even coastal, but for anyone who did care it was a non-starter IMO.

Also seems to me moving there would've made fog-busting/barbarian defense more complicated.

Those are good points, and I guess show the difference between the care you have to take when you're planning to win the game and the more relaxed attitude you can have if you're the mapmaker and you're only playing a little bit to make sure the game is vaguely playable ;) Have to admit in my test plays I didn't even really think about great lighthouse - just assumed on deity it would be a fools errand trying to get it before the AI. (So congratulations to all those who did manage to get it!)

:w00t: Awesome game Duckweed. Real men play CHALLENGER! :goodjob:

:shifty::hide:

I had a look in your save game Duckweed, that's really an awesome game! :crazyeye: :hatsoff:

(I guess it is a bit like in this Chuck Norris joke: If Duckweed switches to Theocracy the AI 'auto-capitulates' :lol:)

Bit late, but...i see you used Curis Duckweed, darn why did you not say so earlier..i would have scratched up motivation and give you a horsies race :)
