News: C3C COTM 97 Pre-Game Discussion

Moving across the river also loses a bonus grass. Considering this is regent, we have a few early turns to "waste" so i will move the worker to the moutain. I will settle or move based on what the worker reveals.

i just checked, and truly the city center yields 6 cpt. quite a lot. settle in place, yes. worker to BG also for me.

Moderator Action: Three posts re. the spoiler condition moved from an inappropriate thread

BTW: what qualifies as "World Map"? You certainly don't want us to research up to Navigation and get a full WM?!

In what context? Please point to the post you are quoting?

Lanzelot: I think you are referring to COTM97 - The Netherlands. The requirement for full WM means that you need to know where all the other tribes live, and the extent of their territory. You do not have to have traded world maps, nor do you need to have explored every ocean tile. So, if you have established contact with all civs and done a circuit of their territory in a boat, then that qualifies. I tried to say that in the first post of the spoiler. I'll have a look to see if I can be clearer.

For future reference, it makes it easier for us to track queries like this if you either contact the game maker (me in this instance) by PM, or post in the previous spoiler or pre-game discussion thread. I'm not having a go, it' s just that we all have our jobs to do at the staff, and we don't all monitor every thread.

Alan, Please can you move these previous posts to the COTM 97 pre-game discussion thread? Thanks.

The staff have had an enquiry about the definition of World Map as it applies to the first spoiler.
I have clarified the definition of that requirement in the first post of the thread and repeat it here for your information.

Note: Full world map means you know where all the opposing tribes live, and the extent of their territory. It is not necessary to have uncovered every ocean tile.
If you have established communications with all opposing tribes and completed a circuit of their coastline in a boat, then that qualifies.

Thanks for the clarification, mad-bax!

BTW: where did I originally post my question? I meant to post it here in the COTM 97 Pre-Game Discussion, as that's where it logically belongs. If I posted somewhere else, then it must have been a mis-click, accidentally hitting the wrong thread... (It was already late at night...) Sorry if I confused you.

BTW:
I tried to say that in the first post of the spoiler.
-- I don't go into the spoiler as long as I don't yet qualify. So I guess, we can always read the first post then?!

You posted it in Game schedule - how often and how long?

Acronym: The coastal start is important for an archipelago game for quick curraghs and other boats, but more importantly for the Commerce Bonus that is given to a Seafaring tribe for those tiles. The bump to research that is given will allow 4/5 turn research much sooner in the game than for the other non-seafaring tribes.

I can't talk for the entire staff. But for my games, then certainly I would encourage people to read the first post of the spoiler. Sometimes it is necessary to place quite detailed instructions and conditions in this post that cannot be adequately dealt with in the thread title.

The biggest risk is that the second post contains a picture of a world map, or a screen grab of a portion of the map, which also shows the minimap. Hence, for my games, I will normally require fairly comprehensive map knowledge prior to reading or posting in the first spoiler. We cannot rely on everyone to put pictures within spoiler tags. I didn't do it for GOTM125 for instance.

All this is only aimed at doing what we can to avoid peoples game experiences being degraded by learning stuff that they should be discovering themselves.

For my planning of the end of July I would like to know if COTM 98 starts on 15th of July or on 1st of August.

The future game schedule was posted in another thread. It is:

C3%20Game%20Schedule.png
I'll put it in a sticky, and update it if it changes.

That gives you COTM 98 starting 13 July.
