News: GOTM 09 - Saves Available

well, I think my strong performance on Monarch last time was flukey...but luckily my adjusted score of just over 10k is extremely unlikely to be top half material...plus I meet the other requirement of being extremely uncomfortable on emperor...ofc, I haven't opened the game yet, so if Alan thinks my score in GOTM8 might put me in the top half, he's welcome to let me know...I probably won't be starting on the GOTM till after my vacation is over.

You only have to take into account your published performances. Don't forget that Adventurer class can't win awards, and loses 15% of final score.

I know, I don't expect to even win on Emperor with the adventurer bonuses...I really don't like Huayna Capac for some reason. The only award I would have even been in contention for last GOTM was lowest scoring diplo victory lol

I intend to play the practice game from this thread and then jump in. I'm one of the few GOTM players who submit losses, although I'm yet to get a fastest one ... *disbands all the Quechuas*

One of the *few*??

You seen the results from GOTM4, the last emperor level game? :mischief:

Moderator Action: PLEASE don't post in the pre-game or saves available threads once you have opened the game.
Which bit of this rule is so hard to understand?

I think its the "dont" part. Too many people confuse don't with donut, and think "if donut can post spoilers, I can post spoilers too!" :mischief:

Actually, i have no idea why people dont understand it. It's not like the rule is hard to follow or anything like that.

I believe it is the "please" part of it. Using the word please makes some people think it is an option and by doing do so, while they could be construed as being rude, they are not breaking any rules.

Eliminate the word please. There is no reason to add a layer of unwarranted politeness. Institutions have learned that No Smoking is much more effective in controlling the unwanted behavior than No Smoking, Please or any variant such statement.

Fact.

FYI: I have not downloaded the game yet.

Sorry guys, I figured that since there was no spoiler(besides the fact that emperor is hard), then my post would not be considered a "spoiler".

I guess I will go sit in the corner and think about what I have done.:nono:

Yes - if you can.

Locked assets prevent this.

What is the deal with locked assets. I played a long session yesterday, and today I am un able to load the game.

The error message I get is "The saved file you have selected has been protected in order that assets in your mod folder have not been changed."
The game then crashes to the desktop

WTH is that about. Yesterday I was able to load the CGOM twice. (My first attempted ended in defeat. ) and have not had a problem in the past.

I installed Warlords last week, but haven't installed any other mods in months.

Help please TIA

1. I hope you realise that your second and subsequent attempts would not be eligible for submission.

2. Do not post here once you have opened the starting save. Use PMs if you need technical assistance.

3. Sorry, I can't offer advice about your locked assets problem. Hopefully ainwood will be along soon with some suggestions.

As I have yet to submit a game due to "Restarting Game Syndrome", I expect some flak (man, was Flak a useless unit if Civ 3 or what?!)

I had hoped this thread would give me some insight into what to research first, whether or not people we're trying to get an early religion (how hard is that on emperor?) or any other thought on the current game....

What gives? Nobody wants to give hints/thoughts....oh, well. By now, most won't/can't discuss it until the first spoiler....but there was a time when I loved reading some of the experts' thoughts on startegy before the game...

I guess *****ing about technicalities of scoring is what it's about now.

Btw....anyone who's played a number of games shouldn't be using the bonus save. I'll lose this game...but I will never play with the bonuses.

Cool. I think I might give this a shot... my first ever CFC GOTM! Let's see how this game turns out... :D

I'm unable to load this. The game says that my version is modified, even with a clean "My Games" - Folder. Where else could the problem be located?

If you have previously played a mod you may have to clear your cache. I *think* you do that by holding Shift down while you launch Civ4.

Well, I'm no expert. Hopefully ainwood may have some bright ideas.

When I ran into this issue before, converting the partition where civ was installed to NTFS solved my problem. Not sure it will work in your case though

Converting to NTFS is easy, you can do that without loosing data using the convert command (check here)

Beware that converting back to FAT is not possible without formatting
