News: GOTM 21 Saves available

an easier way to tell, is if you've ever won a game on that difficulty level, monarch this month, then you most likely don't need the adventurer save.

First monarch game and am doing really really well...will have to wait for 1st spoiler though to reveal what went on...

I don't know if it was patching Civ, or the HoF patch, or somethign about the game, but I had a lot of technical problems with this one. The game kept freezing when I tried to put my graphics setting back to where they were before the patch. And then it crashed to desktop when I captured my first city.

I started experimenting with a different game to see if I could figure out what was going wrong... and accidentally overwrote my autosave for the GOTM. So no submission for me this month. But I'm curious to hear if anyone else has encountered stability issues.

Are you running Vista or XP?

If Vista, see post #12 in this thread, was your graphic setting problem the exit button issue that I was having?

If so, maybe the permissions issue also caused thge desktop crash on city capture?

I'm running XP. Later on (after I'd already accidentally trashed my GOTM saves) I was able to change the graphics settings without any problems. I wasn't able to replicate the crash. So this may just be One of Those Things That Happens Sometimes. Unless, that is, other people experience similar problems.

My main interest at this point is to figure out if there is a underlying problem here, because if so I'm not likely to see it again until the next GOTM. I'll be too busy playing BtS to fiddle with Vanilla civ. :)

I submitted my game, loss. But, it said I was using version 1.61 even though I am using 1.74? Is this an issue?

Hurrah!

I hope this time I finish this game. Well, I had been playing Civilization IV since 1 and a half year, but whenever I start GOTM, I somehow get too busy.

I have planned to finish GOTM this time on time. :crazyeye:

Wish me a good luck!

Ok just downloaded the HOF-mod and the GOTM.

Haven't played a game of civ for at least 6 months so I guess my skils will be rusty. Will also be my first game with Egypt so I'm expecting a tough game.

Good luck everyone!

I have a problem - I'm trying to run the contender save: after the HOF mod has loaded I get the message "the save file you have selected is protected to ensure the assets in your mod folder have not been changed". I then press okay, and Civ closes.

Any ideas? I'm on XP professional if that helps anyone help me.

Do you have the latest vanilla patch (1.74) and the latest HOF mod installed? If so, be sure you don't have a redundant folder for the mod, and that access rights to civ and mod folders are adequate.

Playing as administrator, or just a user?

Thanks for your reply.

I assume by redundant folder for the Mod you mean the old HOF mod folder (1.6XX)? Well, I deleted it but that has no effect.

I don't know how to check my patch but I'm 90% sure I am patched up to 1.74 (been playing GOTM for a while now without problems, I think they all required the same patch).

Finally, yes I'm an administrator. A clueless administrator when it comes to fiddling with Civ stuff...

Go to advanced on your game menu then check for updates. 1.74 was released about a week ago. You will probably need to update. You will also have to download the update for the HOF mod. Also probably directx9.0c to get the new patch running.

Actually, by redundant folder I meant something like a path that reads ">HOF-1.74.001>HOF-1.74.001>" ... but I think this was just an issue for the special SGOTM 05 mod now that I think more about it.

Last prior GOTM was mod HOF-1.61.011 IIRC, so that won't work with patch version 1.74.

In the start menu, go to advanced, then go to about this build ... it will tell you if you are patched to 1.74 or still in 1.61. That is step 1.

I'm having the same issue as Fold. I'm trying to run the contender save and I get the message "the save file you have selected is protected to ensure the assets in your mod folder have not been changed". I am using patch 1.74 and the latest HOF mod. Civ IV works fine for other saves. I just can't load the contender save...

Take a look at this post, and maybe other items in the thread.

It seems that this mod, or the 1.74 patched version, is more picky about where the mod files are located? :crazyeye:

Also, this thread may have some useful advice:

Oh NO,

I cant load the gotm21. I get he following message:
The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed.

When I press 'ok' the game disappears.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Seems to be a common problem. See my post above yours for some possible help links. If I understand it right, make a difference if the mod files are in program files or my games.

@ the moderators: is this problem so common that is warrants an announcement or sticky?

My mod files are in Program Files, not My Games. CivIV works fine because I'm able to play off-line games, so I know I don't have an issue with my PC or DirectX. Nothing seems to be working...

Incidentally, I solved this by patching up to 1.74, then manually adding correct .dll files to my system. Just installing DirectX9.0C didn't work. Thanks for the help everyone gave me.

Now, to the pressing matter of war chariots...
