News: GOTM 53 - Started 1 April

Getting the first WB out faster has to be better... Settle in place and work the hill for 2H (easy to test, but I'm going with my gut feeling here). Also wondering if we might be optics isolated to go with the theme.. (Maybe there are cannibals around though?)

By this method you will get WB after 15 turns. And you will grow to size 2 after 7 more turns. Thus in turn 22 you have a city size 2 and one fish giving 5 food, and the hill giving 2 hammers, thus totalling 3 hammers and 3 extra food.
By turn 24 you will have 6 food and 27 hammers towards next build/growth

By settling in the hills the city will grow after 18 turns, and the workboat is completed after 24 turns.

By turn 24 you will have 12 food and 0 hammers towards next build/growth.

But if you go bronze working you will soon be able to whip a work boat completion.

To not get a double post I am extending my post: Actually after 21 turns you will get bronze working if you settle on the hills. (1 turn for moving + 19 turns for research + 1 turn for revolution) Then you can whip and get a workboat at turn 22, actually nearly 2, because the second work boat will be completed by turn 25. I think I will go for the hill. But that is just my plan.

And I don't plan to build very much in the city, 4 Work Boats, Lighthouse, 1 Galley, 1 or 2 warriors, and the rest settlers and workers, and those last two can be built using food!

This may be a dumb question, but this is my first effort at downloading and playing a GOTM after getting my 64 bit Win 7 laptop. Ok...I go to download, but have no idea where to put the game. I don't have a Saves folder. The only place I have one of those is in the BTS folder. And, that's just a shortcut. Kind of confusing. Is this because I have no other saved games for vanilla or the HOF mod?

I have the same shortcut in my vanilla Civ 4 folder, but it does not show up when I try to install download. And, there is no such shortcut in the Mods/HoF folder.

I'll keep trying to figure it out here, but was eager to give it a start, so if someone with Win 7 can help.....I'm sure it's probably some easy thing I'm missing.

Have you tried starting a random game in Vanilla and saving it, then looking to see if there's a real Saves folder?

Well, I got the start file downloaded....just put it wherever it would go, and found it under Load...then I saved mid game, and that is in my Saves shortcut. That's what's weird, and I think it's a Win 7 thing. No Saves folder. A Civ4Saves shortcut. You click on that, and it goes to what used to be inside the Saves folder in XP.

It's worked fine, when uploading HoF games, for BTS, but it would not show up when trying to download this file.

Tried to play GOTM sometime ago and got this error message.

My system is Windows vista. I think this might be something wrong of the PATH. Could you please offer a solution? Thanks a lot.

BTW, Buffy runs fine.

^ I thought I had done everything required there, but just checked again and found that I did not check the compatibility box for vanilla, which I did that for BTS. Problem was solved. Thanks for remind!

Wait, if I'm all alone how am I gonna build a city, let alone a great civilization?

Loved the Hill Hiker / Desert Nomad debate. Thanks for posting that one, Dhoomstriker! I'm looking forward to this game. I'm not much of a slaver so I hope to learn something here.

Oh, I'm gonna hike up that hill and build a house there.

Hello, I am new to this, and being my first time I recieve this error after I try to load the save game. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Hmm...I think I recall that error from years ago, when I first tried the GOTM. I dare say it can be found here by search, for sure. I think many have gotten it, but I can't remember how you fix it. Search, or someone can help you soon, I'm sure.

Hello, welcome :wavey:

Have you followed the advice in the FAQ?

AlanH's post links the Vista/Win7 page on the HoF site, do all of the things it lists and you should be OK.

BTW, I know from personal experience, that you can't use a NO-CD crack. You have to insert that CD every time you want to play a GOTM.

Moderator Action: Deleted. Don't post here once you have started the game.

I do just submit it like a HoF game, right? Using the start file as my start file? I see no instructions on HOW you submit, otherwise.

I just save the download to desktop, double click it, and the game loads right up with the correct mod (as long as that mod is installed on the computer, of course). What could be easier?

Thanks...didn't see a link to that anywhere else.
There is also a menu of Civ4 xOTM-related page links in the right hand column on every page on the GOTM server, where you downloaded the start file.

Wow this sort of remind me a Civ3 game I played a long time ago design by Gyathaar a while back. I am heading to BW for slavery and sailing for something. Settling on desert. Hope to finish this. But there are two games that need to be played at the moment. OK where is that Warlords disk?
