News: SGOTM 03 - Sign Up Thread

I edited my signup post to include #6 as Window based. Thought it might be helpful.
Thanks. I think I knew that :p

I only need Mac players to identify themselves. Windows players will be catered for in any case, whatever version of the mod we use.

@LongLife: Welcome :wavey:

1. Since your post count is currently 'one', I don't think you played the previous SGOTMs in a team, which is the spirit of the question.

2. Have you discussed joining Pioneer Knights with the current team members?

OK you can count me in.

1. Prefer Vanilla (partly because I'm guessing further vanilla patches are less likely than warlords patches. I don't fancy trying to cope with an SGOTM and a future WOTM that require different patches).
2. Monarch-emperor
3. Yes.
4. No
5. Responding to an invite from Thrallia, so it'd be his team (Geezers)

Team Lists - Current Database Status

The following live feed off the SGOTM 3 Player database reflects the sign-ups I have picked up so far. Please verify that I have included your sign-up, and shown your version preference correctly.

- I have made no attempt to allocate players, other than showing your preferred teams.

- Unallocated players are in three groups - 2.08 (Warlords), 1.16 (Vanilla), and Either. These are not real 'Teams' at this stage.

AlanH - I'm wondering when to expect the SGOTM3 team threads to be open for business. Our team (Short Straw) has checked completely in except for ungy. It would be great to get the strategy discussion going.

Would we have to formally decide that we are going for Warlords? It looks that way from the my and Danthor's preferences but we haven't told you anything "official" yet.

My apologies if these questions are answered in other places.

I recommend you get ungy to comfirm here that he's involved in Short Straw.

I'll confirm the team allocations in the next few days. There are still people checking in, and we still have over a week before we begin. It would not really be fair to give threads to some teams before others have even been allocated.

In most cases the version teams are playing will be self evident. If there's a Red or Blue name in a team then that will dictate that they are playing Warlords or Vanilla respectively. Obviously there should not be teams with both :crazyeye: If there are both cyan and orange names then the majority preference will prevail. When the team lists are consolidated to allocate everyone, I'll include a column to specify the version for each team, and I'll post here to let you know it's happened. I'll then expect any issues to be raised and resolved before team threads are opened. That should happen at the weekend, or soon after.

Please note we used to open the team threads at the same time as the game starts. I'm already cutting some slack by opening them a few days early, so please don't push your luck! :hmm:

Alan, Dagnabbit has been invited, and I believe he accepted, to join Geezers.
I don't see his name in the list. If he hasn't already done so, please get him to sign up here.

Thrallia seems to have added an extra 'b'. The name should be Dagnabit and he has previously signed up here.

Sorry - didn't realize I was pushing my luck! :D

At the risk of pushing my luck even further, can I make a suggestion that we discourage strategy discussions outside of team threads? There is a temptation in the absence of team threads to communicate with team members via email or PMs. Currently, I don't think this is against the rules (as I read them on the reference thread).

The problem with this, I think, is that after the game is over, we can't see some of the key strategy discussions of the teams who use this tactic. For me seeing these discussions from the top teams is one of the best parts of SGOTM.

Thanks for your responses to my previous post and of course thanks for your time and energy in administrating this competition. I'm sure I would have put away civ4 a long time ago if it weren't for you and the rest of the CFC staff.

Sorry, but I doubt if I could stop players communicating outside of the threads. Some have their own forums where they congregate, others have personal friendships build over time. I can encourage them to replicate their discussions in their threads, but I don't have omniscient powers to check that this is done, and I don't have infinite time and energy to devote to the task.

1. can play both--last I think Short Straw was leaning warlords which would be my strong preference.

2. emperor but have not had a chance to play the new patch

3. yes

4. yes

5. Short Straw

IMPORTANT:Please can any Mac player who has signed up, or signs up before the game begins, please let me know.

I'm on a Mac and don't have Warlords ... sorry. If I'm the only one let me know and I'll either drop out or buy the expansion. (Is it out for Mac yet?) Don't want to create a hassel.

Also, edited my sign up post to change my difficultly level since people seem to be saying what they can regualrly win at ... not what they usually play at.

The problem is that Mac Civ4 (or Warlords) can not run the same HoF Mod as Windows, so I have to create a special cross-platform version of the mod for a team that includes Mac players. And since the cross-platform mod will not include the fixes for Civ4 bugs, we should therefore extend that mod to all vanilla teams so that we have a level playing field.

The Warlords version that's out for Mac is 2.00, so you can't play Warlords for this game, and it wouldn't make any difference.

@AlanH - Yipes! Well if its a case of everyone playing vanilla needing to download and install a new HOF version (plus you needing to code the beast), just to accomode me I'd rather not pick up that kind of karma! :religion:
