Welcome to the new Warlords SGOTM forum. We've split this one out in the hope that there will be less confusion as we start to overlap Vanilla and Warlords SGOTMs.

SGOTM 04 - Gandhi In Space - Warlords-style

And ... Welcome to the fourth Civ4 SGOTM, and the first that is Warlords-only.

This game will re-enact the historical Civ3 SGOTM 09 challenge. It is 4000 BC. You are the Viking leader, Ragnar. You have met the Indian leader, Gandhi, and you have signed a pact in blood. The Vikings agree to teach india the art of war, and make them strong through conflict. In return India will take the Vikings to the stars.

You start the game as a neighbour of India. Following the pact you are at permanent war with Gandhi, and will remain so for the rest of the game. You are allowed no peace treaties with India. And India must win by space victory. All victory conditions are enabled except Diplomatic, but the winning team will be the one that gets India to Alpha Centauri, and does it fastest.

The Game
This Monarch difficulty game is on a Standard size, Gyathaar-special, fractal map, at Epic speed, against 7 rivals including India. All victory conditions are enabled except Diplomatic, but the laurels for this contest will be awarded to the teams who achieve the fastest Space defeat by Gandhi.

Versions
This game will be played in Warlords Version 2.08 only.

It will be played using the current version of the HoF Mod. This is version 2.08.003 for Windows, and version 2.00.002 for Mac.

If later versions of Warlords or the HoF Mod are released they cannot be used for this game.

Mac OS X players will be welcome, but they MUST play in a separate team, as we cannot provide a cross-platform version of the HoF Mod that would allow Mac and PC players to share the same saves. So there will have to be at least five or six Mac players to form a quorum.

The game will start on February 23rd.

Please post in this thread if you wish to join a team and take part in the competition. The information required to place you in a suitable team is as follows:-

  1. Which level (noble, monarch, etc.) are you comfortable playing in a solo game?
  2. Have you played any Civ4/Warlords GOTM games before?
  3. Have you played any succession games or SGOTM before?
  4. Do you have a group of players you want to play with?
  5. Please state if you wish to play in OS X on a Mac. If so you will have to join a Mac-only team.

Notes
  • Please visit the Civ4 SGOTM reference thread to check out the rules and procedures to ensure that you are adequately prepared for this game.
  • Warlords v.2.08 is supported for this SGOTM. No other versions can be used, and you will have to stick with the same version throughout the game.
  • Teams will compete for up to four awards - the Gold, Silver and Bronze Laurels for the fastest finishes, and the Wooden Spoons for the lowest scoring finisher. The number of awards may be reduced, depending on the number of teams who sign up.
  • Awards will be given to teams who achieve Space defeats to India in the least turns.
  • All saved game files uploaded to the server are parsed through software that extracts and archives data about your save, including reload count for each turn set.
  • Spoiler information will absolutely NOT be tolerated in this thread.

What he said.

And as I recall, I led Team Bede to a stunning upset loss to a cultural victory by the Celts of all people in the SGOTM original. Perhaps under other auspices it will go better.

What Bede and Leif said. I hope Gandhi learns to build a boat or two this time. We actually played it out to 2050, and he still hadn't done much. I think the winning team got a lucky break due to a wonder cascade giving India the Apollo program.

Count me in, just let me see if all Fifth Element team will join.

Finding this thread is just a bit easier than find the Graal

I'd love to give this another shot, but do I have the time...? At least I don't think there'll be any trouble getting AIs to build spaceships this time round!

Which level (noble, monarch, etc.) are you comfortable playing in a solo game? Prince
Have you played any Civ4/Warlords GOTM games before? I played Civ4 GOTMs 1 & 2
Have you played any succession games or SGOTM before? A few Civ3 SGOTMs
Do you have a group of players you want to play with? I can't guarantee the time to play. Attach me to a team as a lurker with the possibility to upgrade?

If I am difficult to place due to low ability level I am ok with sitting this one out. I've been practicing a lot and should be ready for next one if I don't make it this time. :)

Well I must admit I think this is an absolutely cracking idea for a SGOTM.

Congrats to the staff for finding games that look stretching and fun whilst retaining a difficulty level that most players will feel happy to join in with :goodjob:

1. Emperor

Jenarie. A positive attitude, willingness to debate things and commitment to particpate are FAR more valuable to any team than just about anything else. So don't let lack of CIV expertise deter you, these boards (and hence the teams) are full of friendly people and I honestly believe no team would be unhappy having a noble level player join them.

Welcome to the wild and wacky world of Gyathaar  SGOTM's

I would like to join

1 Emperor
2 Yes (GOTM8 and onwards)
3 No
4 Murky Waters (together with Gnejs if possible)

1. Monarch
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Team VQ if they get their act together otherwise, put me anywhere

Anyone have a link to the original SGOTM 9?
