Ngomele civilization, a modmodmod for Orbis

If I remember correctly, in Civ2 knowledge of sanitation was necessary for cities to grow beyond size 8 and later some building to grow beond 20 or so. Don't know whether the mechanics are even comperable to Civ4.

In the FF thread they 're working on a food transfer system, so if implementable maybe the Ngomele might have one slum/sprawl city and numerous smaller feeder-towns to supply it. Too Kurio-like?

Not sure about the food transfer system developping currently in FF. I'm going for my own, using the Cowrider and the unique mechanic of the gnolls to gather food after fights. Maybe I'll take the time to code a tag like iPopThreshold that would be limitless if not specified. The Ngomele Citizens autobuilding (in each city) would, say, make it to 6 but the Palace would make it to 10. I would like the techs to change this too...

I got to turn 168 in my Ngomele game before the game crashed too often to be fun anymore (like when I clicked on advisor icons). :mad: Guess I get to start playing on cramped Erebus maps... :cry:

Anyway, I kinda liked the food gathering mechanic even when it drove my cities over the starvation cap (I had enough happiness and small enough cities that I didn't go over the happy cap). It gave them a sort of feast-and-famine feature that seemed very flavorful. :)

I did have an interesting issue playing as Lengdu though. The Peaceful trait seems to work in reverse. Instead of adding +15% culture, commerce and science when at peace it seems to take it away. :crazyeye: Behold, screenshots for your edification:

Just wanted to post and say I've been playing the Ngomele a bit and they've been pretty fun so far, aside from the lack of Gnoll artwork. I'm sure that'll get smoothed out eventually, though.

@Cylnar: Either it works in reverse or the values in the city screen aren't correct. I'll have to check that since it is from base Orbis.

As for the food gaining, I may leave it be if I implement the city pop cap which is very likely... And I will add the culture gaining anyway :p

Finally, what bugs did you have with the advisors?

@Cypher: I hope so. SeZereth told he may do some base gnoll art. Other than that (and The_Coyote art), I don't have anything else.

Opera, where can I get the Ngomele? I'd liek to give them a try. Sounds cool!

Yeah, I should update the first post. They're bundled in with the [MODMOD] LeadersEnhanced that you can find in Orbis forum :)

Great, thanks!

I´ve got a basic Gnoll like model done.
But it isnt textured or rigged or anything close to being useable ;)
but well... at least you´ll get your unit soon :)

If you could have 3 variants (on the model, like 3 units with different weapon/animation/armor/clothes), what should they be? (no promises, just to give you something to start with and someone else to continue with (by retexturing, etc.))

Oh, thanks! :eek:

Three variants? Hmm... I would say:
  • One in robes, no staff or anything in the hands, maybe green eyes, not sure which animation though;
  • One with a spear and a shield, with a Spearman animation I guess;
  • One in vivid colors (like a yellowish skirt and a sort of orange poncho), at most with a trumpet or drums; at best a trumpet I think since this unit would have an upgrade with a sword;
I hope I didn't ask for too much...
Do you need anymore detail? Or maybe you have some questions on those variants?

Ok, thx for the info, i´ll keep it in mind.
As I will have to do the Kuriotates Recon line from the same model, I might start with that and then you can tell me which units you can use of it, and then I can do some slight modifications or reskins or something for you.

No problem :)

The Kurios recon line will use gnolls?

No, the Kuriotates will have Mustevals for their recon line. Much of the forum has decided they out to have Ferret-men, not Hyena-men. Kael himself isn't as much into the whole demihuman concept as the rest of the team and forum, but has agreed to allow them to o with Mustevals anyway.

Seems to me some of the Werewolf models could be easily adapted for gnolls. Just color them differently and there you go! :D

Yes, I thought that too, but it won't be enough and I'm not sure it will fit. Werewolves look like barbarians or bloodthirsty things while Ngomele aren't.

They can be used for earlier units like warriors (that are closer to being barbarians than highly trained later units) and other unarmed units. Just a suggestion to stretch out the units since seZereth is too busy now to do a complete set (seeing human unit models when playing the Ngomele is distracting). Use his models for later units. ;)

I´ve gt something basic done... hope you like it.
