NHL 2011-2012 season thread

Has Nash asked to be traded? I didn't think he had....
I think it's implied given how far this has gone. Maybe not requested but let management know that it's a good time to part. That's my interpretation.

What kind of contract is Johnson on? Were we able to save some salary? I know Carter was on the books for the next 100 years.
He's signed through the 2017-18 season at a cap hit of $4.36 million.

It now seems Nash officially wants to be traded as soon as possible.
"We're hopeful a deal can get done prior to the trade deadline that is fair and equitable for the Blue Jackets," Resnick told TSN, according to McKenzie. "However, if a deal is not reached, then the list of acceptable teams will not change at a later date."

Its finally Rick Nash Trade Deadline Day!

Buffalo does get a First Round pick for Gaustad after all.
Preds definitely making moves lately.

Is it over? No Nash trade?

Its over. Fairly unspectacular trade deadline.

Unspectacular? Mostly, but not quite. Buffalo had a good day.

I'm a bit upset at losing Hodgson, and surprised Gillis moved him at all given how he's been playing. I'll have to see how the winger & dman coming back fit into the line-up - I know little about either of them.

At least Nashville got better.

Was more a dead tradeline than a trade deadline.

(Though Montreal did mostly what was expected)

I'm just plain happy the Hawks got Scott off the roster.

A little late with this due to the site downtime, but the Leafs firing Wilson is the clearest example of addition by subtraction that I've seen in a while. The belligerent jerk was nothing short of poison to his players self esteem. Good riddance.

Max Pacioretty become the first Habs in four years to notch 30 goals in one season (sucky offense? Sucky offense.). For extra fun, he notched his 30th a year to the day after the Chara hit.

Here's to hoping he notches several mores in the next 14 (but without the Habs winning too many). Montreal could stand to have our first >35 goal scorer in over 15 years.

(And that's a large part of why I'm not too pessimistic about the Habs' situation as it stands. Montreal's woes are mostly the lack of experience of the defensive line, and the lack of a true first line for the past several years. The first round draft pick - which should go to Grigorenko or Galchenyuk - and the emergence of Pacioretty (and to a lesser extent Desharnais) should help the offensive woes. The defensive inexperience is largely a self-fixing problem: Emelin, Subban and Diaz are not getting any worse, plus of course there's Markov who should be returning soon. In the net, Carey Price remain a solid goaltender, though we could stand to have a better backup).

EDIT: soon meaning "twenty four hours after this post was made", apparently.
