I was really hoping that they'd add Israel into the new expansion pack with maybe Ben Gurion as the leader but I was sadly disappointed.

personally I think it would be inappropriate to have Israel in the expansion pack, mostly politically and in other ways.

I'm fine with an Israel mod because then ppl can choose to have it or not.

Agreed.

Also, was Isreal in any previous official (i.e. not a mod) civ game?

the Babylonians would be the closest because the Hebrews once stayed there I think, before bieng expelled to Egypt (not trying to cause a flame war over religion if I didn't remember the bible correctly, so my apologies if I misinterpreted).

otherwise, no

After the destruction of the first temple, and WAY after the slavery of the jews by egypt, the babylonians took the hebrews to be scribes and such because at that time the jews had an absurdly high literacy rate. When the babylonians were conquered by the persians the jews were allowed to return and establish the second temple, though they did have some troubles with Haman (BOOOOOO), as told in the story of purim. Considering the fact that the Jews have lived under the domain of the egyptians, hittites, bablylonians, persians, macedonians (Alexander and his generals), romans, muslims, crusaders, ottomans, english, and occasional self rule under, for instance, the maccabee's (Story of Channukah) and the current state of Israel, saying that the Babylonians would be the closest isn't that true. The hittites from anatolia (Ancient Turkey) would probably be the closest, considering the reason that they took the jews to egypt was because of similarities between the conquerers and the previously conquered, but even then saying anything other than say, a Ben Gurion/Judah Maccabee Israel civ is close to israel is somewhat irrelevant, because so many empires have taken control of palestine.

well you're probably right since the Hittites once had an empire in the area. Although we should end the discussion to prevent a flame war. (I know you weren't flaming me, just stating the facts).

In other words, there are many reasons why they wouldn't include Israel in the game, the primary one bieng Political.

not appropriate politically? in other ways? What- they don't want to offend anti semites, nazis, terrorists or something?

I dunno, we'd have to ask the developers exactly why they wouldn't.

and I'm going to ask this thread to be closed or something because its on the verge of becoming a flame war.

I'm not fully surprised. Although I do really expect them to be at least in the 2nd expansion pack, which I assume they will probably do. I'm more surprised that the Babylonians still aren't in.

Still let's hope in the next expansion they add the Israelis and Babylonians.

Gee, well the empire of Israel is young, small and has won a war against Egypt with American weaponry. People are confusing Israel with with the history of Jews methinks.

A possible work-around could be the inclusion of Iudea, but this would be tenous to say the least. The inclusion of Judaism as a religion covers this question, methinks.

Because the name comes to us via a Roman source, where the 'I' is used as there is no 'J' in Latin. The introduction of 'J' to our language comes after the existence of the territory.

I lecture this stuff in university. It makes me very boring down the pub. Don't get me started on Boadecia.:)

lol you just got lost in the chronology=P
The babylons conquered Israel and exiled them all over the babylonian empire, but that didnt included them to the civ, they remained Hebrews not Babylons=P
Oh and normal Israeli people are non-observant so we dont war over religious.

How could the Israelites be politically incorrect when we have the "Arabs" in Civ?

I don't remember that in any Indiana Jones movies, then again, its been a while. Lets not turn this into a grammar fest or something.

A Barbarian tribe? Israelis have offered too much to western civilization to be there.

And I seriously hope you were kidding about calling the Israelis Terrorists with no impact. -.-
