Noble01: The One They're Afraid to Start

How interesting, I've never seen the WFYABTA reason in my games. And the obvious reason is of course that I SUCK and have never been too advanced!! :)

Anyone still here? I won't make it before tomorrow. So I really suggest that you take your turns, Emp. Killyouall...

I cant play before tommorow either :(

Mostly builder turns here:

1515 AD (0):
Research at 50 % to get economics one turn faster
Cancel cottage build at Najran. Nobody read my proposal of making it a second specialist city?
Send worker to chop forrest at Damascus
Swap Mecca to Taj Mahal (4 turns faster), Medina to Military (hey, it has the Heroic Epic...)
Who built that town on the hill at Hastings? We will most likely never be able to support it. WIll replace it with a windmill ;)
OB with Cathy, Send her Corn for 3 GPT
Sink our galleys: They're outdated and do nothing but raise our military budget.
Stop thatre at Yakutsk: There is enough military inside to prevent a revolution and a granary is better at the start.

1520 AD (1):
London: Market -> Library
whip market in Najran

1525 AD (2):
Najran: Market -> University
Kurfah: Library -> Lighthouse
Medina: Camel Archer -> Longbow

1530 AD (3):
Medina: Longbow -> Longbow
Baghdad: Harbour -> Bank
Hanno born in Moscow - is it the GM form Economics ? One turn to see, heart rate at dangerous levels :lol:
Chop and whip Oxford at Damascus
whip Lighthouse at Kurfah (I probably managed to lower our population by 10% in my first 3 turns :lol:)

Peace with Caesar. He gives us a few pennies, nothin' big.

1535 AD (4):

economics.jpg

Economics comes in: Pytheas born in Mecca - Cathy got her GM manually...
Medina: Longbow: Hindu Mon (background: We probably want to have a few monasteries once SciMeth is there)
Kurfah: Lighthouse -> Courthouse
Oxford in Damascus -> Complete Courthouse. Damascus is now making 265 Beakers - exactly 4 of them by commerce :hammer:
Research set to Replaceable Parts: This is on the way to Rifling (which should counter the russian Cossacks and it opens up the lumbermills)

1540 AD (5):
Medina: Hindu Mon -> Buddhist Mon
Canterbury: Forge -> Harbour
GE born in Mecca. I love it when a plan comes together. Since nobody has Nationalism yet I don't use him to rushbuild the Taj Mahal, we can finish it the oldschool way. We can use him on the Statue of Liberty or the Pentagon...
Peace with Bis.

1545 Ad (6):
OB with Caesar
Nottingham: Market -> Jewish Missionary: Want to spread it to Medina.

1550 AD (7):
Medina: Monastery -> Grocer (was at health limit)
Yakutsk: Granary -> Theatre (already started)
Settle GM in Nottingham since it will be our future Wall Street city, he has only to offer some lousy 2 turns worth of research in direction for Constitution and a trade mission seemed not worth it.

1555 AD (8):
Nottingham: Jewish Missionary -> Bank
London: Library -> Forge
Another GS born in Damascus. We officially rock :lol: I make him a super specialist since we can research anything he can lightbulb in a mere 2-3 turns.

1560 AD: (9)

repparts.jpg

Rep. Parts come in, I set research to Constitution. Begin to build Lumbermills.
Yakutsk: Theatre -> Courthouse
Governour turns citizen specialist from Mercantilism into an artist - good idea..

1565 AD (10):
Fail to spread Judaism to Medina. Need more Missionaries! We can make some money by spreading Judaism.

We are slowly but steady going back to some decent research rate. There are still af ew courthouses in the process of building and we still have the Forbidden Palace (I'd propose Yekatarinenburg if we want to conquer Cathy or a city in the northwest if we want to expand in direction of Toku). We have enough military, it's only that parts of it are a little bit too old. We could either just produce new units or upgrade pats of it. I'd say keep the city raider units to upgrade them into riflemen once these are available and replace the other units by newer ones. Also don't potpone SciMeth for too long. There are so many Scientists at Damascus now that the GL won't matter a lot and there is a GS in the techtree at Physics which can compensate for the loss. The lost Monasteries can be compensated by building observatories, we just need Astronomy.
Basra will need some culture, so we should send a missionary there. Remember to spread Judaism around, first to a highshield city like Mecca or Medina, thay can produce the missionaries then.
I have placed some signs regarding terrain improvements, please take this just as a recommendation, not as a request ;)
If we go to war with Cathy, bring in Alex. He'll do it for a cheap tech and we will get the "mutual struggle" bonus with him, so we can break WFYABTA and also have a close ally. Note that lots of russian, german and greek troops are at the west barb-busting, so if you declare be aware of invasions from the west.
Reearch wise we are half through Constitution, so I'd propose to go for Democracy next, to get the SoL. Rifling opens up Riflemen which counter Cossacks. If we want to go for a new war, we should go for steel. Cannons are city-busting monsters AND we can make good use of the Ironworks.

Not bad, give the 280 non-commerce beakers out of Damascus alone ;)

I am sorry for not being able to provide a more detailed report, but my civ time is very limited at the moment. Sorry for the delay by the way :lol:

The save can be found here: Save.

got it. Will play tomorrow, prob. Good turnset.

good playing! I like your thinking process about going for rifling to anticipate dealing with Cathy's cossacks if we go to war with her again...I need to think more about strategic stuff like that.

At this point should we be thinking about what type of victory? I personally would like to try conquest and/or going for a very high score just to see how it's achieved.

Domination is easy: build bigger armies than they do, crush foes, keep good cities and raze bad ones, build courthouse or theater in new cities, raise culture % if war weariness is causing :('s. Build more army to replace dead. Half of your army should be siege, but your non-siege should always be larger than the opponent's potential counterattack.

It's very inefficient to take on Cathy in this era. Take all you can from her, sue for peace when she gets Cossacks, then move on to the left side of the map in the meantime while upgrading to infantry and tanks.

Build Oxford in Mecca and Wall Street in the Jewish shrine city. (Build universities even in the high-production cities so you can get the Oxford up faster.)

Turn 0- Nothing.
Turn 1- Cathy offers Gunpowder for Nationalism. No way, help her get Cossacks? Oddly enough, we can’t propose trades because “We will never trade with you, our worst enemy!!!” Yekaterinburg Courthouse-Theatre.
Turn 2- Medina Something- Theatre. Damascus Courthouse- Market. Canterbury Something- University.
Turn 3- Constitution in, research on Democracy. Medina Theatre- Research.
Turn 4- Yek- Rax.
Turn 5- GA Begins. Baghdad Bank- Market. Naj Uni- Harbor. Kufah Courthouse- Harbor. Up science to 60%.
Turn 6- Mecca Camel Archer- Bank. Nottingham Bank- Harbor. Basra Granary-Theatre.
Turn 7- Bizzy wants copper, I say no. Yek Rax-Jewish Monastery.
Turn 8- Democracy in. Start Gunpowder, due in 1. Mecca Bank-Taoist Monastery (for science) Canterbury Uni- Bank. London Forge-Harbor.
Turn 9- Gunpowder in, start Rifling due in 4. Mecca Monastery- Statue of Liberty. Nottingham harbor- Jewish missionary. Up research rate to 70%.
Turn 10- Nottingham Jewish Missionary- Jewish Missionary. Kufah Harbor- Forge. Yek- Jewish Monastery- Jewish Missionary.

I think you can put me on autoskip now. I don’t have the patience or time these days to play turnsets. I will still be watching this, though.

Lot of :smoke: prob. Although do check out our GNP.

Hi,

my internet access has unfortunately become *very* unstable. Please skip me, if I'm up and don't respond within 24 hrs.
I will report back, when that problems are solved. Sorry.

Cheron

Anyone????

Well, I am still out there, waitin for somebody to make their turns. It seems as if interest in this one has ceased, probably because we are already halfway into a win. I'd say we wait until next weekand for somebody to pick this one up and if nobody does, we bury the game, search for replacements or play only as a team of two.
