Read the post about ukraine, and then think about Poland.

My point was that you could replace "Ukraine" with "Poland" and the post would be just as meaningful. I'm guessing from your response that you agree with me.

Do you therefore agree that Polish people are too emotionally involved to assess their shared cultural heritage with Russia dispassionately and rationally?

I don't blame you for not wanting to be associated with Russia; but I don't understand why you don't want to be considered "Eastern European". It doesn't make sense to me. I don't like the French - noncon, for example, has French roots, and for that, I can never love him, in spite of myself - but I won't deny that France and Britain are both part of Western Europe. "Eastern European" is a largely meaningless term anyway. It doesn't mean your "less European" - if you think that then that is your prejudice, not mine.

The fact is that in the 19th Century, Russia was a part of Europe. Now, Russia has entirely distanced itself politically from Europe, and we no longer consider it truly European. For that reason, the definitions of East, Central, and West have shifted; what used to be Central is now either East or West, as there is no need to have a separate category for Central Europe.

So it's up to you. Do you want to continue this pointless fight to be considered part of a group that will always make you feel like an outsider, or do you want to have your own identity and be part of a union of equals?

Do you therefore agree that Polish people are too emotionally involved to assess their shared cultural heritage with Russia dispassionately and rationally? That is where you are wrong. The point i'm making is that poland doesn't share it's culture with Russia.

Maybe for you guys it's different, but for us, bein called eastern europeans is like calling you a dirt poor communist bastard piece of . .. .. .. . x 100. since this thread is about the N word, this is the N word for us. You don't see why, but we do, and we find it offensive.

We have enough space, Brits, French, Spaniards etc. = Western, Germans, Swiss, Poles, Czechs etc. = Central, Ukraine, Estonians, Latvians, Balkans, Romanians etc. = East. That isn't a proper arguement as we do have enough space, but geography isn't the issue. It is Culture. Culturally, We have a central european culture. Our Culture is shared with the Germans, Czechs, Hungarians etc. NOT with Russians, Ukrainians, Romanians, Serbs etc.
