That is what you were mistaken. 1000 years ago, people thought of Poland as central europe, 500 years ago, central europe, the leaders who partitioned poland thought central europe, Hitler thought Central Europe, and now? Eastern Europe? Just because of the Cold war and the iron curtain?

But you've been saying that Russian culture is completely unlike any culture in Europe, so how can Russia possibly be considered European?

Hence, Russia is not part of Europe. It makes no sense to define Poland at "central" Europe, when Poland is so far to the East of this new map of Europe that excludes Russia (and presumably Ukraine and Belarus too).

that's because Ukrainians HATE Russians!! Have you ever met a Ukrainian? Say that they have ANYTHING in common with Russians - even the fact that they are NEIGHBOURS, and they'll act as if you just killed their mother!!

They are too emotionally involved to assess their shared culture objectively. Now, I don't blame them for that, but I do take what they say with a pinch of salt...

Anyway - i'm trying to see things from TheLastOne's point of view, but having no neighbouring latin countries, i guess i can't.
It would be intresting to see if people other 2 slavic nations (other than Poland and Russia) think the same.
