Nooble Challenge - Domination

Hmm, ok I'll check in more often.

As for the wonders - unless I misunderstood something, those wonders seemed generally agreed here and that's why I pursued them. That's far more than I've built in a long time.

In any event, now that I'm not alone it's definitely time to change up the research track.

ParadigmShifter - no no, Tesla didn't partially build the pyramids. He magically built them start to finish - no wasted hammers/turns at all.

That's OK then. Your phrase "lent a hand with the Pyramids" was what had me worried ;)

A sustainable techrate of 100 beakers/turn is quite doable by 1 AD

I'd quite like to know how to do this can you give me some tips? I reran the game and at 1AD the best I got was an additional 20 beakers. I built no wonders and just focused on infrastructure/military and some building of research when adding military or additional cities was going to stifle me horribly.

Yeah but Unconquered Sun was implying that I shouldn't be building wonders this game so adding the GL in would probably be a no-go.

I said domination games aren't woderfests. The GL has great synergy with Represenation (Pyramids), Parthenon, and marble. It's a must have under the circumstances.

There are three ways to develop a powerful economy by 1 AD. Number one is to cottage your capital and grow the city as much as possible (Monarchy a must). A good starting location will result in pop of 15-20. Toss in Bureaucracy and academy and you'll get great research.

The number two way is to produce lots of GP points. Let's say you got a GE from GW and a GS who bulbed Philosophy. Then, three cities with libraries running two scientists each under Pacifism and Philo leader = enough GS to bulb Paper and Education in 28 turns...which translates as over 100 bpt from GPPs alone for normal settings. On top of that you get the scientist generated beakers (a lot with Pyramids).

Finally, there's trade routes economy. TE is highly situational, if powerful.

Ah, ok so essentially you were Monday morning quarterbacking without having seen the game.

Thanks!

AnaNg, could you post more screenshots for those of us (and by that i mean me :) ) who do not have warlords and therefore cannot load the saved game.

City screens are always interesting and empire views.

An interesting thread, thank you.

I tried playing a shadow game. I played through to the end and I have to say, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be... The basic problem is that the starting island is very food poor. Without CS, you really can't grow your cities very large (although the production of the island is awesome). HOwever, the noble AI doesn't tech super fast so it's possible to build a tech lead and crush the AI with superior units.

Could you post a screenshot of the cities you founded? I can post a shot that has all of my city sites as a comparison.

Shyuhe,

Thanks! Yeah this start/location didn't really do me any favors. I was really excited about the production capabilities of the place until it became clear that fueling it (with food) was going to be a bit of a problem.

"Empire" view at 50 AD is below - I took some advice from this thread and founded cities where I could get maximum cottages, but then setting them up with cottages AND at least some production was still a trick.

Maybe what I should have done was not bother looking for people, beeline economy/late military techs and just trade maps when people found me.

And maybe what I should just do is start another one on a Pangea map :p
