NotW XXXI: It's a Long Story (Game Thread)

Hmmm... J6, are you willing to pay for votes on that amulet?

Uh, he's kinda dead, isn't he?

Anyway, Diamondeye can have the gold.

Shoot, I must've been drinking again :p I didn't see that!

Anyway I am voting Earthling the amulet for now. I am of course open to bribes if they're large enough

Earthling should not have the amulet, nor another day in this council.

The Learned Councilor came to me a few days ago under the guise of friendship, offering to help heal my wounds. I saw no reason not to accept, and my wounds were healed, though renewed again. This day he came to me under the guise of threat, telling me that my recurring wounds were suspicious, and that he would "gather suspicion on me" if I didn't immediately tell him. As the nature of my wounds is nothing sensitive, and as several of you are already aware of it, I saw no reason not to tell him.

I asked him to share some information in return, for good faith, and for possibly building some trust. This is where things started going downhill. He tells me first how he belongs to no faction at all. When I point out the stupidity of such a statement in the face of reality [OOC: the OP states everyone belongs to a faction], he changes this to being a one-man faction. He is looking for an artifact of Oghma (cf "learned"), and of course no threat to anyone. Naturally. Then suddenly he is working for Esus, to "protect the council". Right. And doesn't know who the others in his faction are, if they even exist. Right.

Now, normally I wouldn't be so dismayed in the face of outright lies, even though I cringe at the ineptitude. The really fun part is that when I called BS and refused to share my own faction in return, our "learned" councilor starts threatening me. He would tell everyone what he learned about me and my wounds, and there would be people out there who were after me for it, so I better tell him even more about myself. Right.

Now, normally I wouldn't take so badly to threats either, I can certainly be a bully when I feel like it. But there's one more interesting tidbit. He claimed that he could heal me, and my wounds were indeed healed at one point after he offered. But then Winston Hughes died, and turned out to be a Fellowship Healer, and a Ljosalfar Recon Agent to boot. Now, what are the chances that there are actually two healers in the Undercouncil? I would find a single one suspicious to start with in this crowd, and question their motives. But two? Far more likely then that Earthling was acting a liaison for his faction friend Winston Hughes, much like Sprig claimed the ability of Stuck in Pi.

I accuse Earthling of being a Ljosalfar agent. And I would find a Ljosalfar in our midst far more serious a threat than two disgruntled merchants, who we already know who they are and what they can do.

Earthling rightfully deserves the Amulet.

I am known to be quite a dealer, and I will refuse no offer. ($$$)

Well gee, I'd really like to help you out fellas, but for some strange reason I've developed an intense desire to vote the amulet to Earthling.

I've got ninety thousand pounds in my pajamas
I've got forty thousand French francs in my fridge
I've got lots and lots of lira
Now the deutschmark's getting dearer,
And my dollar bill could buy the Brooklyn Bridge.
There is...

...nothing quite as wonderful as money!
There is nothing quite as beautiful as cash!
Some people say it's folly, but I'd rather have the lolly,
With money you can make a splash!

There is nothing quite as wonderful as money!
There is nothing like a newly minted pound!
Everyone must hanker for the butchness of a banker
It's accountancy that makes the world go round!

You can keep your Marxist ways, for it's only just a phase...
Money, money, money makes the world go round!

Money! Money! Money! Money! Money! Money! Money! Money! Money!

A note to people, Innocent should never lie, if they don't want to reveal sensitive info, simply don't answer.

I'm not saying Earthling is mafia(/or an evil faction), just that he should stop lying.

The Sly Councilor glares at TLO.

Innocents? In MY Undercouncil? Well, I never.

Ljosalfar Do-gooders like Earthling need to be purged. Even worse than merchants. Ugh.

And speaking of money, I want it. I promise to spread it around as others have done in the past. Large sums should not go to anyone without such a promise, unless a very good reason is given.

Renata seems as good a target for the gold as anyone. Of all the ones making claims for the amulet, Disquisition showed honesty in splitting the gold he received earlier.

Erm... Autolycus is also dead.

What have you been drinking, Diamondeye? :p

Anyway, Niklas's argument seems valid, so Earthling. And I've been bribed, no I haven't, yes I have, no I haven't, yes I have, Shut up, stupid enigmatic voice of enigmaticism.

NIKLAS IS ASHEN VEIL

Or, on the chance he's not, he is a killer. So, I might as well say - I talked to Niklas earlier this morning real time, have been away since this then, not surprised to see a bandwagon on me, since I haven't had chance to respond to anything. The Amulet business happened before all of this for a few of you but the same goes in that I'll be very grateful for support in stopping Niklas (and surviving whatever his allies will do to try to kill me). What Niklas said to me essentially confirms he is Ashen Veil, or a chance of some cult we don't know about.

Niklas' injury is not an injury; it's some sort of ritual he and some ally of his are engaged in to transform him somehow. I dispelled it the first time which is why they're trying again. I'll be responding to some of the no doubt misinformed/misled accusations against me here in a minute, for those who want more on Niklas right now, contact me in private.

If anyone needs gold or a reason to vote Niklas I'd even oblige, but once you see him dead and he's one of the cultists killing people, you can thank me then.

Also Niklas has blown my cover so - someone out there has my artifact. I'm not lying, I am a lone mage from the Amurite nation, and recovering this artifact is absolutely imperative to the Council's continued existence. I know Niklas doesn't have it, he's some random cultist again, but I know the person who stole it is out there and knows about me now, so I will be looking for you. I'm getting that artifact back.

Oh yeah also the elves obviously know I'm not an elf. That's Niklas making up his own story to accuse me/trying to piece together something that doesn't incriminate himself, when the fact of the matter is our discussion pretty much revealed everything I needed to know about his ritual and cult dealings. So you guys would be prime candidates if you want full proof/background on Niklas being a cultist, just contact me. I'll be around to fight my case this night!

Nice try Earthling, I wouldn't have expected that much from you. You fail though. On three accounts.

One: The only thing I confirmed to you was the fact that my wounds were not unexpected to me, and I've revealed that and more to quite a few people. The wounds are part of no ritual, Ashen Veil or otherwise, no matter your conjecture. And you dispelled nothing, as the wounds are not and were not magical in nature. The only way you could remove them was through actual healing, which was also made clear in the PM I received describing it, hence my suspicion on the connection to the late Fellowship Healer.

Two: You're not the only one who wants to make a connection between my wounds and the Veil kills. I even noted it myself. But I've been wounded more times than there have been Veil kills, if you would care to actually read the updates. The fact that I've twice been wounded when a Veil kill takes place is a timing thing - what you really should read into it is that I've twice been wounded at a "Night" update. No, that's no coincidence, but correlation is not causation. But also, [and yeah this is meta-gaming] if I truly were the Ashen Veil killer, do you think our GM would really make it so obvious that it's the wounded guy whodunnit?

Third, and most epic: Even if I was an Ashen Veil ritualist, which I am not, I would have a very valid reason to be at, and work with, this council. It's not like any of us are do-goody types anyway. A Ljosalfar on the other hand can only be here to bring about our demise. So cry bogeyman all you like, I'd rather have an Ashen Veil priest in the seat next to me than I would you.

I dispelled your superhuman endurance and you know it. In fact all you are doing now is giving me evidence on who your allies are - we can start with who voted you the knife at the start and work from there, after you're dead and your cult exposed.

And you're making up a nice misleading strawman (Oghma grants me power of modern day debate terms) since I didn't claim this ritual was part of the killings. And yes, I have read into it that you've been wounded at a Night update; if by some amazing coincidence we both survive this night I'll stop whatever you're up to again. So if you're not the Veil, and part of another cult, why don't you reveal it, since then you would want the Veil dead too? Perhaps reveal your item(s) publicly and that silver knife that protected you from the vampires- you're running out of options before you die.

But you're really digging yourself into a hole here. Because I...am...not...an...elf. And the actual elves will all know this, so that's like free supporters who'll show up sometime I'm sure to vote you and your cult to death for your treachery.

In fact, if there is anyone who can determine the race of a Councilor at any time - feel free to use that ability to find out I'm just a human, if I live through till tomorrow night and anyone has found out I'm not human, accuse me then.
