SINO-SOVIET SPLIT NEAR AN END?

U429P886T15D30678F104DT20140106131143.jpg

Chinese troops advancing in relatively clear conditions

Ufa, People’s Republic of China-Seeing a Russian economy on the verge of collapse, an army trounced by the Europeans, and a nation distrusting its government, the People’s Republic of China declared that Russia’s leaders had betrayed its people and had forfeited its right to govern. Instead, President Lun would bring true communism to the Russian people, and at last the dreadful Sino-Soviet split would finally end. With little warning, Chinese marines quickly seized Hǎishēnwǎi (Vladivostok) while the 42nd and 28th Group Army marched from Kazakhstan into the Russian winter. The 28th Group Army was responsible for marching east, taking out Russia’s easternmost industrial centers before doubling back west, while the 42nd Group Army would march west, with the short-term goal of capturing Samara. Though the Russian winter, and even its partisans would cause some trouble for the Chinese, PLA Generals did not anticipate serious resistance from Russian troops. However, veteran Russian troops, after a rapid campaign in the south, were available to embark on a march north to save their Motherland. The 42nd Group Army had taken Samara without incident, however with the winter conditions and the lack of aerial cover, advanced scouting was nearly impossible. These conditions would cause the Chinese to be caught completely off-guard when the 2nd Federal Guards launched a counter attack. Supported by the 314th Federal Air Wing, heavy Russian firepower hit the Chinese like a storm, causing significant casualties, particularly the Chinese armor. One infantry division held so the remainder of the army could withdraw, but the Chinese were forced to abandon some equipment in the snow. The 42nd regrouped in Ufa, though significantly separated from the 28th Group Army, and hopes to make its next move with support from the newly relocated PLAF. For many observers, the Russian victory at Samara has kept the government from completely collapsing, as it seeks to consolidate its position, and its people are still willing to fight the invaders. However, experts point out that Russia’s debt is coming due this Spring and will cause a significant disturbance to the Russian state and economy, especially with the loss of the Ural industrial cities. Over a third of the Russian economy lays in Chinese hands, and though Russian troops are better equipped and trained, the Chinese economy is twice the size of the current Russian economy. However, even with the arrival of the Chinese air force, the skies are at worst, even, and for the Russians the arrival of the muddy season can help slow the Chinese even further. And in some circles, there is hope that if Russia can hold out for this spring, a country like Japan, IS, or even Europe, worried about the growth of the Chinese dragon, may intervene for the sake of balance of power. For now though, even though the situation on the ground right now favors the Russians, most experts believe that it will be China that dictates the pace of this war.

CAVALRY TO THE RESCUE IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC?

Type-42-Destroyer-to-Visit-London-UK.jpg

Indian Destroyers deploy anti-air missiles against Indonesian aircraft

Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia-With Australia still reeling from the events of autumn, and its fleet still months away, the Indonesians have had free reign over the continent, taking the last few Australian hold outs on the eastern coast. With the 1st Union Marines remaining in Hawaii for unknown reasons, the Australian Emergency Forces were formed in Perth, though they are for the most part untrained, lacking vehicles and completely out of air support range. Perhaps the greatest hope for the Australians was in the potential for intervention by an outside power, be it Japan, China, or India. In the end, it would be India that answered the call, sending its fleet and the 1st Gorkha Rifles. The Indians were initially successful in their invasion of Socotra, however the Indonesian fleet, rechristened the TNI-Srivijaya, had anticipated an enemy might strike at their homeland. The Indonesian fleet, the largest and most well-trained navy in the world, met with an Indian fleet that did not even contain carriers within the Java Sea. The Indian fleet was destroyed in whole, unable to escape Indonesian carrier-based aircraft, and the 1st Gorkha, seeing the potential of being cut off from the homeland, opted to retreat before the situation deteriorated even further. On the Australian homefront, the refusal to deploy the marines, and the defeat of the Indian expedition has put the popularity of Pike’s Syndicalist government at an all-time low. While in Western Australia the dissent is a bit more muted, in New Zealand there have been riots, and there has been talks of either an outright rebellion or a secessionist movement for New Zealand from the Union. Some Pike loyalists have urged for a peace at any cost, even if it means the loss of Australian territory, if only to ensure that rebels will not tear apart the nation. However, at this time it seems that all leverage is held by the Indonesians, and though it is likely that they could dictate a peace, many wonder why they would when they are at the cusp of total victory.

NORTH AMERICAN POWERS STRUGGLE ON

150427233401-16-baltimore-clashes-0427-super-169.jpg

Citizens in Baltimore rioting as America leaves, Mexico advances

San Diego, The United States of America- As the Second Mexican-American War continues towards its one year mark, the conflict may at last be showing signs of slowing down, with both populations growing more and more tired of the expensive and destructive war, though neither country has indicated that they are prepared to negotiate an actual settlement. The “River Front” was where the two main armies of Mexico and the United States would do battle, and would account for almost all of the casualties. New U.S. fighters once more took to the skies, and once more the Mexican air force would take them down, though sustaining more casualties than they had previously. On the ground, both the American and Mexican generals had orders to attack, with the Americans relying on numbers and the Mexicans on air support. With both sides of the river being heavily fortified, the war took a turn towards what one might imagine the trenches of World War One would be like, with major offensives only taking a mile or two at best. Neither side’s advantage could overcome the other, and in the end, the River Front stalled. However, each side did have their own major side campaign in hopes of demoralizing the enemy into surrender. For the Americans, images the joyful liberation of California, and then planting the American flag on Mexican soil in Tijuana would be circulated around the country in hopes of stemming the growing dissident movement, while in Mexico, those images would be used by anti-communists to show that at last the government no longer had any control over the situation, and that Mexico needed to sue for peace. However, the Mexicans struck back, with a legendary long march performed by the Second Revolutionary Guards Army through the heart of America and arriving as a conquering army into Washington D.C., causing a mass panic in the Northeast. The Fossey-Trump administration relocated to Palm Beach in Florida, under the protective cover of the 1st Army and the air force, however the loss of D.C., even with the recovery of California, has caused mass protests in the nation. In particular, the Leftist “Progressive Restoration” has earned the loyalty of the many former senators, and has attracted a grassroots following. With the fall of D.C and cut off from the American military, the Progressive Restoration’s militia soldiers have risen up in New England and were able to seize undefended Boston and there have been rumors that the group is operating another insurgency camp in North Dakota. For the most part though, the Progressive Restoration is still rather small, and has not yet been able to urge defections from the Army, yet many in the Northeast are hopeful that the Restoration can defend the nation from both Mexicans and despotism.

Pro-Indian Mutiny grips Pakistan!
Islamabad, Republic of India

After a year of preparation and funding (some say that the Pakistani insurgents were better equipped than the armies of some super powers), the Republic of India has at last made its move against its long standing rival in Pakistan. Pro-Indian guerillas sabotaged Pakistani airfields, and detonated IED’s near Pakistan border installations as Indian troops began their assault. The Indian troops attempted to outflank the Pakistani troops with some small success due to their local allies, but the pro-government Pakistani forces were still able to sustain an admirable defensive line, despite the fact that India had achieved air superiority over what little remained of the Pakistani Air Force. In the end though, much of the Pakistani military would be destroyed, though the Indians did sustain some significant casualties, but the result has been that the entire north has fallen to India and its Pakistani supporters. The Pakistani government troops have regrouped in the south now, though most experts feel that, barring a miracle, decades of Indian separation will be at an end.

Concordat expands reach into Central Europe!
Budapest, European Concordat

With Russia sufficiently neutered, the European Concordat has taken its first steps in bringing the rest of Europe into its orbit. The veteran ERRF overwhelmed the Croatian military in a matter of hours, and European forces recieved the surrender of the Croatian government that same day. The European Joint Defense Force had a more difficult time in Slovakia, but the sheer number of European troops simply overwhelmed Slovakia, who was forced to also surrender after a day of fighting. Gendarme brigades were deployed to assist with the cleaning up of dissidents, and some units in each country would hold out for a few more days, but the majority of citizens realized it was a pointless endeavour to resist. After Slovakia and Croatia were subdued, the two European Armies launched a joint operation against Hungary. Nurtured on far-right anti-Europe policies for decades, the Hungarians were far more prepared than Slovakia and Croatia, and the Hungarian army held the EJDF in the north, barely losing any territory until the ERRF launched its offensive in the south. The Hungarians were completely unable to fight on multiple fronts, and while some would continue fighting on after the loss of Budapest, most units realized it was a lost cause and the Concordat was once again victorious. With these recent additions, all of Southern Europe lays open to the Concordat and though some, such as Romania, Greece, and Serbia, will be able to put up a fight, many of the countries in the region have miniscule military budgets and lack the hardware or numbers to resist the Concordat’s encroachment. In Europe proper, after a century of being overshadowed by Asia and America, many are applauding these victories as a first step of returning Europe to its proper place atop the world.

African Federation stumbles in Angola invasion
Lobito, Republic of Angola

The AF, fresh off their combined arms assault into Madagascar, was eager to once more put its combined arms assault to work with an invasion into neighboring Angola, however their succeses were limited by strained logistics. The 5th Marines were unable to take its assault behind enemy lines, and were forced to slog around with the veteran 1st Federation Army against the bulk of Angolan troops. However, with the support from the African supercarrier, the Mobius squadron has established air superiority in the region, and African generals are anticipating that the liberation of Angola should be completed by the end of Spring.

Argentina withdraws from Chile
Santiago, Republic of Chile

With the sudden Brazilian denunciation of the Treaty of Montevideo, Argentina was left highly exposed in its back flank. Though the Argentinians had done significant damage to the Chilean army, the lack of defensive forces in the homeland forced Argentina to prematurely end its invasion without a true victory. Though the Argentinian press has called this a victory, the populace has still reacted with anger, wondering how the first “Imperial” campaign could end without total victory. While Argentine ambassadors have denounced the Brazilian repudiation as proof of how the Brazilians cannot be trusted, it has been met with bemusement by neutral countries, with the Peruvian president calling it “the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact of South America”. Indeed, since Brazil’s protection of Chile, Brazil’s standing has improved signficiantly in the region, and many hope that Brazil and Argentina keep one another too busy to fight the other South American countries.

Azerbaijan quickly subjugated
Baku, United Socialist Federation of Russia

Before the Chinese offensive was launched into Central Asia, veteran Russian troops were under orders to quickly subjugate the people of Azerbaijan. Russia’s doctrine of bringing intense firepower to the battlefield would help crush the Arzerbaijanian army in an efficient manner, with the Armenians seeming to be in complete chaos from day one. Suffering minimal casualties, Russian troops confidently marched through Baku and received the government’s surrender. Azerbaijan has been added to the Socialist Federation with little bloodshed, but as war rages in China, one must wonder how long the Russian government (and nation) will last.

West African Marines bogged down in Gambia
Banjul, Republic of Gambia

The FDRWA, seeking to catch neighboring Gambia off-guard, sent the amphibious GGLA-2nd Division to bypass the border units and instead hit right at the port city of Banjul, in a rare example of a modern amphibious assault upon a city directly. Unfortunately for the West Africans, the Gambian coastal batteries were well-prepared for this possibility, and made brutal work of the West African transports and naval units. When the West Africans were able to finally land, they were stymied by a lack of armor, artillery, or air support of any kind, all of which the Gambians had in spades. The West Africans were forced to call off their assault, and returned to Ghana to contemplate their next move.

Jamaica free once more!
Kingston, Republic of Jamaica

The people of Jamaica, having seen the weakness of the US forces have gotten the courage (and financial backing) to rise up against their absent overlords. In an almost pathetic defense, the US occupational authority almost immediately surrendered, leading some Jamaicans to wonder why they hadn’t risen up yet in the first place. Jamaica’s independence in itself has not been a major issue for the Americans, but the only thing missed has been the Jamaican economy, desperately needed for the US war effort.

We have thus far spared you the horrors of war, in full knowledge that the Pike regime is an Australian one and that you hold no responsibility for their aggressive policies. With that in mind, the present government of the Republic of Indonesia, offers you a chance to rise up and establish a provisional government. This government will be granted considerable domestic autonomy under the auspices of a new regional government we intend to establish to safeguard peace and security in the region. Furthermore, your people will be given a seat of honour at an upcoming Constitional Convention which will establish the contours of the new government. We have given you this option because we should not like to have come as a conquerer but we will if we must.

We shall have to root out the snakes it seems. Once we have done that, it will be up to the Hawaiian people to decide their own fate through plebiscite. To Australia

The Pike regime has proven aggressive and incompetent. We ask that you surrender. The war is over and we have no desire to slaughter the ill-equipped conscripts the Pikites would have us fight.

We have recently established a provisional government which will in due time be given full domestic autonomy. Until such time, we ask that you cooperate with our forces to effec a swift transfer of domestic affairs.

We would offer you a seat at the Constitutonal Convention so that you might have some input as to the organisation of your government into the future. However, this is impractical given that the Pikites are still fighting. The sooner the guns are silenced, the more input the people of Australia will have.

The United States will cede the state of Texas to Mexico. Furthermore, the United States will recognise Cuba and Jamaica as Mexican zones of interest and foreswear any attempts to end the independence of these nations, and withdraw from them in perpetuity.

New Finance Minister

caxD9Ot.jpg

- Hernán Lorenzino, Imperial Finance Minister

His Imperial Majesty, by the Grace of God Emperor of Argentina and Savior of the Nation, Ignacio I, has appointed the renown Argentine economist Hernán Lorenzino as Finance Minister. Mr. Hernán Lorenzino has studied extensively economics, with studies in the US, the UK and Germany. He has self-described himself as a 'Neoliberal' and follows Friedman's theories in economics. Today, he declared:

"My first goal as a Finance Minister is to privatize state-owned companies that are not profitable for the state. At the same time, there will be cuts in public spending and a lowering of taxes; especially for foreign companies who invest in Argentina. Those companies will not pay a single cent for the first two years and only after those two years will they pay a corporate tax of 10%. Also, the taxation system shall be overhauled so that a flat tax system of 15% is implemented."

For the Argentine debt, he said:

"The debt is going to be repaid in the next few months. Our goal is to run a primary surplus. Already, more than half of the debt has been serviced. Further military spending has been suspended, so that the debt can be repaid as soon as possible."

Lastly, he called foreign investors to invest in Argentina:

"Argentina is a paragon of stability. While the rest of the world is in war, just see the US-Mexico conflict and the Russo-China conflict, Argentina is and will remain in peace. There is also political stability and no fear that a socialist or, even worse, communist government is formed. So, the interests of investors will be respected and safeguarded. Combine this stability, both internal and external, of Argentina with the fact that no taxes at all will be paid during the first two years and, after this period of time, businesses shall pay only a 10% corporate tax, and you understand why Argentina is the best place to invest your money to."

Well people of Australia. There you have it, your government wishes to sacrifice a million of its citizens and one of her own cities to win a war that cannot be won. We wish to avoid this situation as much as we can. We therefore propose that Perth be declared an open city to at least spare the populace of that great city the horrors of war. If the Pikites intend to fight on, let it be soldiers who die and not civilians. We have communicated this offer to the Pikite regime and await their response.
