Official ruling on profanity?

Some words are censored for a reason, so don't try to bypass it. :)

As for the word "bastard", I guess it's ok to say it if you are not using it to attack another poster.

what about whore? that got my sig banned.

I've been noticing people are using the A-word more, as in "That game really kicks ass." Is this acceptable? I know it's NOT acceptable to call people an ass or an a-wordhole

If you use it up in Civ3, you will probably find your post "edited". ;)

Most definately. I have edited more than one post like that. ;) Sometimes I'll just put in something comical in place of it... in blue.

A few words I may let go by, if I feel they are appropriate to the specific post. For instance, in a story thread, a character may say "Damn!", and I probably won't touch it. On the other hand, if he calls another character a "******* *** ** * *****", we may have a little discussion. ;)

Hi!

Hmm, what about gratutious (spell) violence in the stories???

Most stories, based on games, do contain WARS. And wars can get messy.

For example, can there be "detailed descriptions" about an ancient swordsman getting his throat slashed, or a paratrooper getting shot in the head???

Whoa, can someone decipher that? ;)

And be warned, when I ban people, it's at the extreme end. No puny 3-day bans for me, except when mitigating responses are received.

You've been warned. :smoke:

Oh ****. :mischief:

It seems that he has censored a one letter word... Hmmm I wonder which letter that could be?

XIII talks about bans but I dunno... I think XIII is a big :sheep: myself... :p
<shrugs> We'll see about that... :mischief:

'Sides, mods operate in the dark underside of CFC, beyond the scanning of busybodies like yourselves... :p

OK, well there's only two one letter words in the English language, "a" and "I". Therefore the message:

"******* *** ** * *****"

must be, by substitution, either:

"aaaaaaa aaa aa a aaaaa" or
"iiiiiii iii ii I iiiii"

That doesn't make sense. Perhaps it's not a simple substitution cipher. Anyone got a bombe handy? :)

It could be: "permban you in a flash" :mischief:

That was especially confusing to me, since I use the Pale White style, and that text is the same colour as my background! I had to highlight the line to see what was there.

Now I'll be worried people are saying things about me and I can't see it.

They are doing that without having to resort to color; there is the private "Roast MadScot" forum.

Keep it clean, dear posters not for my sake (I am more skillful than almost any of you with 'choice' laguage) but for the Thuderfalls chosen atmosphere here. He want posters and parents to have few qualms about this site. I myself, find vulgarity, etc, most serious here when used in connection with other offenses, like trolling or flaming.

I actually figured it out ! It's not so hard really, just decipher the one-letter word and the two-letter word first, and then the three- and five-letter words become obvious :)
Now, seeing as I figured it out, do I get to chide Padma for his language ? ;)

I can't believe Padma said that. Even in all asterix, that's just way out of character!!

Jack merchant is right, if you do it his way it is easy to figure out.

Shame, Padma :nono:

<ahem>

What you *think* I said is not necessarily what I was thinking when I typed it. And if I actually said what you think (I can come up with a couple phrases that fit that pattern), you are correct, in that it would be completely out of character for me.

In any case, this proves my point: "bleeping" a word or phrase doesn't disguise it. If you are going to use that kind of language, whether bleeped or not, I *will* censor you in the Civ3 forums.
