Official System Requirements

Can anyone give me an indication of the performance boost I will get from going to a 1GB Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 from an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT? Thanks.

The 5670 has about twice the memory bandwidth and thrice the processing power, plus all sorts of optimizations and new DirectX features. So depending on the game probably something between 50% and 400%, the more modern and the more GPU limited the game, the bigger the difference :)

massive, considering the second number is the same and the first is four higher it should be much more powerful especially if the 5670 uses GDDR5
It does.

Do you or anybody know of a source for a chart of some sort that illustrates the relative performance of the different generations of video cards. It's a little hard to plainly see the difference when looking at a table of specifications as seen in this excel chart from Sapphiretech.com.

What is the difference in terms of game play between "Minimum Spec" and "Recommended Spec"
Processor and memory will mean the game runs slower. BUT will game features be effected?
AND will there be map size restrictions?

2600XT vs 5670 specs

It does.

It would be next to impossible to make a meaningful, universal performance comparison chart like that, the performance being a function of a lot of parameters. You could make a chart for each of those parameters (most commonly done for the transistor count), but that would not necessarily give you much of a clue how these cards will perform in a specific application.

Visual learners can dream.

My desktop:
Intel core i5-750 @ 2.67 GHz 2.66 GHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM 1333
Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1 GB GDDR3
Windows 7 ultimate

As far as I know, it should run Civ V fine... Am I right?

yes, that is way past the recommended specs

My Laptop:

Intel core 2 duo T5900 2.20 Ghz
4 GB DDR2 RAM
512MB Nvidea GeForce 9500M GS Turbocache
Windows 7 Home Premium

Am I even close?????

Okay, bear with my illiterateness for a moment here as I try to post the right stuff.

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 @ 2.80GHz
2.00 GB RAM
1024 MB, NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT
Windows XP SP3

Would that work, maybe scratch by the minimum?
If not, any suggestions?

I'm stoopid.
:dunno:

My desktop:

Windows XP SP3
Core 2 duo 6300 @ 1.86 GHz
2GB RAM
256 MB GeForce 7600 GT

Will that even meet the minimum requirements? Sorry, I don't know too much about PC specs. Thanks for any help.

Might be a textbook "minimal" CiV system ;)
Apart from from the 256 MB VRAM that is, though I don't doubt that you will get it to run somehow.

Just wondering if anyone knows whether Civ5 will run on a Dell Latitude e6400 laptop. Specs are:

Windows XP Pro sp3
Intel Graphic Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Intel Core 2 Duo processor

all the memory req's meet minimum. Pretty sure processor speed does too.

My biggest question mark is the graphics and the operating system.

That abomination of a video "card" is significantly slower than even the bare minimum i3 GPU, and I have the nagging suspicion that this one is deemed sufficient only because Intel apparently invested quite a few recources into the multicore optimization of ciV
In addition, the driver support for games is notoriously bad with Intel GPUs. Expect it to not run at all.

No problem with Windows XP, unless you want to play the 1 or 2 games that require DirectX>9.

Cool thanks. I'll hopefully be able to upgrade my pc to meet the recommended specs soon.

Can the old 8400 GS Geforce take CiV? 512 RAM

I guess that with my AMD Athlon II X2 245, and 3GB of RAM i'm fine, it's only the video card that worries me, or should I look into processor and/or RAM?

Not a gaming behemoth, but at least I can run games like Assassin's Creed II really smoothly, on low settings of course.

Thanks... I guess I have incentive now to replace my 10 year old stationary PC.

If anyone has tips on a good priceworthy system...
