Official System Requirements

I was thinking about perhaps getting a new laptop with the release of Civilization 5 considering my current computer is getting pretty old.

I was thinking i might get Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG-5454G32n
Intel Core i5 450M D, 2,4Ghz, Dual Core
Mobility Radeon HD 5650 (1GB)
4GB RAM
Windows 7

Anyone has an idea on how well Civ 5 would run on this?

I only game on PC to play civ and dont know a lot. will this do the trick?

XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800MHzFSB, 6M L2 Cache)

You're past minimum, but not recommended. It should be fine.

You're past minimum, but not recommended. It should be fine.

If you judge from Civ 4 the specs were so wrong I wouldn't pre-order unless I was above the recommended specs.

This has such obscene specs that I'm pretty sure it will run well on recommended

If it's true that the i3 can run it fine the minimum requirements for desktop computers would be much, much lower. Nvidia cards as old as the 6600 GT can outperform the i3, same goes to the ATI 9800 series. I seriously doubt the i3 can run it very well.

Another requirement that confuses me is the minimum GFX card required. The 7900 GT should be noticeably faster than the 2600 XT. I recommend that you try the demo before purchasing the game, unless you're absolutely confident that you can run it.

someone suggested I run the Mafia II demo. It worked, although it was a little laggy when I was on the streets running with a lot of action.

Cant believe it. I got a real high powered laptop in the summer of 08. This stuff really does move along quick.

Id be open to upgrade my graphics card.

I am about to upgrade my rig from an old duel corel e6750 2.8 to something that will run civ 5 well. I have around £290 to budget with and like i say i want a cpu that is mainly for gaming. I have a reasonible graphics card although the games i mainly play are map based strategy games like the total war series and civ (my reason for doing this)

According to "can you run it" i am below min cpu settings. I have norrowed my choice to two options. 1 CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz

http://www.cclonline.com/product-i [...] id=0&tid=#

which is well thought of, although some of the mags say it is not too strong a cpu for cheap gaming. The other i have fouind is a simular priced bundle from another supplier of a overclocked bundle

argon Extreme Intel Core i3 2.93GHz @ 4.20GHz Overclocked Bundle

now im really out of touch with modern cpu's (i used to build machines back in the day of pentuin 1, 2 , 3 's etc this current generation is a bit overwhelming when it comes to choice.) What do you guys suggest? i hear that civ 5 uses multi threading so might the x2 be the one?

Are the game's system requirements the same as at the beginning of this Thread?

I have the money for a new pc, just not sure what to buy yet. Or where I can buy it. It seems like my choices are limited to best buy, and computer reboot. I am not sure either sells a decent gaming computer.

I might just buy the tower, and buy a keyboard, monitor, and mouse. Or the whole schmeel, will this work for Civ 5? It's like a little over 700 bucks. They just don't sell high end pc's around here. Thanks for any help.

If you go with the Pavilion get a dedicated GPU because the integrated GPU is worse than the newest Intel IGP to beat recommended is either a GTX 260 $169 or Radeon 5750 $129 (both prices from newegg.com)

Would this thing take care of business or what? I think it's overkill, but I am not sure about Acer. I do have a monitor they made, never had any issues with it.

Yeah, it would.
Because it's a complete overkill ;).

J how long before that's obsolete? Probably not too long. Anyway, I am looking for something maybe in between the two I mentioned.

How about this? $1098

This should do just fine. I do not have time to build a pc right now, otherwise I would do that. How do you think this system would play civ 5? Its a 6GB DDR3, and can upgrade to 24GB, man!

J how long before that's obsolete? Probably not too long.

Probably 6 months, but nearly everything in computers is obsolete after a half year. "Investing in the future" is not someting what you should do at computers, it's not worth it.

Meets nearly recommend (would need a GB more RAM), but besides that pretty okay.
But i guess you can get it cheaper than around 1000$.

wait until next year to buy, new CPUs and new GPUs

No sorry your graphics card is too dated

You're past minimum, but not recommended. It should be fine.

An excellent example of what happens when one graphics card from each vendor is specified. Only the demo will really tell. I hope it works because I have an 8600M GT as well (slightly slower variant), and a 2.4 GHz (overclocked) processor on my Dell laptop - the Inspiron equivalent of yours. As Qpla says, the 8600M GT is better than the i3 integrated, so I think it will be okay. The nVIDIA requirement that's stated is the highest of any of the three vendors.

Will it run on XP 64bit SP2?

SP3 was never released for it.

Yes, it should. XP 64-bit came out in 2005, and thus the service pack timeline for it is different. Whereas SP2 for regular XP came out in 2004, SP2 for XP 64-bit came out in 2007 and is the current (still supported with updates) version of XP 64-bit.

It still wouldn't be a bad idea to try the demo. I haven't personally run into any games that didn't run on XP 64-bit (that did on XP and weren't 16-bit), and it should work, but the lack of mention of it in the requirements means Civ5 probably wasn't tested with it.
