Oh, the weather outside is...

Less than a month ago, we had snowstorms. Then they cleared up and everything got muddy. Then it got insanely hot, and apparently I've failed to notice all the wildfires going on around the province (air quality hasn't been bad here - not smoky enough to notice). Now it's raining and I'm going to have to turn the heat on.

There's a reason why there's a saying here: "In Alberta, if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes."

4 seasons in one day.

Auckland had more flooding 3rd time this year iirc.

Currently bucketing down outside.

Sunny, clear blue skies, temps in the low 80s, light winds.

Sunny, 72F/23C, 26% humidity, a bit of a breeze. Just about perfect for a walk in the park across the street. Wouldn't want it to be any warmer than this.

On May 1st over in Illinois, there was a small apocalypse on Interstate 55 south of Springfield.

A whole bunch of people died when a dust storm engulfed a highway where people regularly drive 80mph (130kph).

It was dry and the farmers had turned over their fields.
Very windy in that state. Nothing to slow it down.

I took a screenshot of the Google road map.

Spoiler :

Jeez.
I don't recall anything like this before.

The last tast time I drove through Illinois, I was pretty annoyed how the big commercial trucks had a different speed limit than the cars.
Seems to make things more dangerous when everyone is being forced to not drive the same speed.

There are a lot of wildfires going on in Alberta now. Some constituencies are asking for the May 29 election to be delayed as thousands of people have been evacuated from their communities.

The smoke finally got here this morning. The sky is a weird grayish-green. I don't envy anyone having to be outside, and I've no intention of going anywhere or opening a window, even if the conditions are muggy.

The fires themselves aren't anywhere near Red Deer, so I'm safe. It's just going to be hard to breathe for awhile, as my windows don't fit tightly. I guess this explains the headache last night.

The weather for my camping trip - looks like I'm bring the winter sleeping bags this time!

Feels oddly like fall -- it's cool and windy, a nice change from a weekend of smothering July-like heat & humidity.

Normally I'd say this is my kind of weather, but maybe not for camping.

At night it was a "wear all the layers" event as it got down to freezing, and I even pulled my toque down over my nose so that only my nostrils and mouth were sticking out.
This past Wednesday was the worst - roughly 12C with a continual drizzle, so I couldn't even get out to do anything, other than drive around to warm up:
A bad day at camp is still better than a good day at work.png

But both Tuesday and Thursday were great, as I got to sit at my private little beach, watch the sun set, and listen to the peepers and loons all evening long:
And not a care was given.png

One of the loons which was calling all evening long:
