So, like, is the entire country of Canada basically on fire?![]()
This link gives an idea of where the current forest fires are in Ontario. Currently in Syracuse NY the sky is very hazy, and the smell of smoke is everywhere. Never experienced anything like this in New York before!

The other day, they said the smoke in the air here was from fires in Nova Scotia. Then the wind slowly shifted, we had one clear day, and now I hear on the radio that the smoke in the air is from fires in Quebec and Ontario.

When I got off the train, I could really see and smell the smoke. I was able to look directly at the Sun, which was a lovely, apocalyptic orange. How far away are you? We've had smoke you can smell reach us on east coast of NZ from Australia.
2000+ kilometers and a large mountain range later.
Happened twice that I can remember second time we coukd also smell it.
Few days ago 20 degrees. This morning first frost.

A little over 500km between Syracuse and Ottawa, Ontario. How far away are you?
For a while now (I think a few weeks), the clouds have billowed their way to the northeast of the US.A little over 500km between Syracuse and Ottawa, Ontario.
Today the smoke index is supposed to be worse, however after that it should improve due to the winds push the smoke in a different direction.

From what I've seen NY has it worse than we did. Sydney to Dunedin is 2100km the smoke was thicker up north.
The winds in this region typically prevail from west to east, however for the last few days they've been running north to south, and smoke from the Ontario fires has stayed relatively close to the ground, exasperating the situation. Here's a link to an article and some photos of how bad it is currently in Syracuse. Photos look like their out of that BladeRunner 2049 movie!

I didn't see it much worse where I'm at. Though I did notice, especially today, that the sunbeams still have the color of a rising sun (orangy color).......at 9:00am (and again when I briefly wake up at 12:00pm) when I normally see it all white. Though it confuses me since I'm still thinking it's still morning (I work third/grave shift so that puts it more confusing for me). This is what New York City looked like yesterday. It wasn't nearly that bad here. Photos courtesy of ABC News. It doesn't say what time these were taken, just "before sunset."

Robin Bresnahan from CBC Ottawa was just on the BBC. She said there are 400 fires burning, and the most-ever total hectares burning simultaneously (most on record, I suppose it doesn't need to be said). So I guess that answers that question...So, like, is the entire country of Canada basically on fire?![]()
