Old About Avatar's and How to get one!

Cool. As I haven't done an avatar for anyone, my "portfolio" is non-existent, but I guess what I can do is just come up with a few off-the-cuff examples on my own. I'll post these within the next two or three days!

@Lyonesse: sorry I asked TF to change my username at the same time I asked you about the avatar. Raijer's pic is the type of composition I had in mind, probably with a more faint image of Mr. Scotty and some reference to a planetary body in the background. Hopefully it is not to much for 65x65.
Just for help, here is the full size Scotty pic the CFC one is created from, together with a pic that expresses the right atmosphere but prob. with to much detail for a small avatar. Also, a left-to-right beam going slightly up might be more dynamic. The beam-up effect is also very nice!

Ok, so here's one without the "beam-up" effect....
ummm.. I just realized I have no idea how to load more than one image at a time. Can anyone help me out here?
Easy. At the bottom of each forum page there is the Upload file feature. Use that to upload as many files as you want. Copy the path the upload window gives, remember the name of the uploaded files.
Next, in your post copy/enter the path plus filename and put (img)before each file and (/img) after each file. Replace () with [].
Example: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/beam.jpeg[\img] where the / is swapped with \ to display it as text.
The color combination of the first one is great, so sorry for Scotty he is hit in the shoulder ;)

I am trying to work on your avatar when I can. I am in the process of a pretty graphically intense animation for a friend at the moment. I will work on it when I can.

Just some help to you people on vB Code. Quoting specific parts of a message is very easy, the quote of Lyonesse's post is simple copy/paste the text in the original post, then put (quote)(/quote) around it. I replaced [] with () to make it appear as text.

Just allow to do a little searching.
Spent quite some time to find something representing a planetary body by the bare minimum because of the 65x65 limit, here is what's found.
A real moon pic, with a small arc of light which could also resemble a sunrise seen thru a planetary atmosphere.
An artist impression pic of a sunrising over a planet, but not very realistic! How could such a part of a sphere be illuminated by a lightsource just touching the sphere from the point of view?
The real moon pic, combined with the sun and beams of the other pic would be cool! Also found some more pics similar to these, if you want those can be uploaded as well.

okay, is something like this what you were looking for. Keep in mind that the "Flare" can be made bigger, or smaller....
as for adding scotty to the picture I'm gonna have to leave that up to Raijer. And with that I will also have to ask Raijer, how did you make Scotty so faint? I swear I knew how to do that once upon a time!

You'll remember as soon as I tell you!
The easiest way is to simply go to your Layers pallet, choose the layer you want fainter, and then go to the top of the Layers pallet and slide the Opacity slider down from 100%.- Status
