On Moving or Staying

It wasn't relevant, and statistics aren't the only thing that matters.

HA! The fact your beautifully manicured thread has done sweet FA for the discussion is irrelevant. Bravo!

Also, nice of you to graciously accept you are wrong by simply change tac!

I concur with Emu!

Possibly because some people seem to want a solution immediately and can't stand the notion of a long-term discussion, or be bothered to participate in it, and demand results now so the whole issue can be swept under the rug as quickly as possible.

Hrm... I wonder who?

You said it would have been a better idea to go straight to the mods and move the forum without the rest of us knowing

Spammy: After reading the first page, I am convinced that a move (within the Civfanatics forums) would be beneficial. I have nothing to input that hasn't already been inputted.

Edit: More specifically, somewhere with more visibility.

We're moving to other games, its been decided! we'll be no longer be a slightly hidden forum but a main forum.

I am clearly in the minority in wanting things done in a logical and productive fashion, so figure it out yourselves.

No, your in the minority in wanting it done in your exact way, disgarding anyone elses imput.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. While I continue to involve myself here, I doubt that having a NESing mod is a good idea overall. While it could be an enormous help administratively, actually moderating the forum would only complicate matters. I dont' know how Reno feels about it.

Personally, I'm overall quite neutral to having a NESer moderator.

However, I am simply not up for it myself. I simply can't see myself devoting the time and effort for moderating a forum.

I don't know what my opinion matters, but maybe a compromise could be putting down a redirect link in the Civ4 forum or the Other Games section? If any of the problems mentioned here arise, we can always ask to have it taken it down, and the ones smart/dedicated enough to find us again are likely better NESing material than those who don't.

Thats actually really smart. I move again my position to adding a link in the Civ4 section that links here.

I would like to note to everyone that I support the North King plan.

Endorsed by Swiss.

My input into this caustic discussion would probably only be met with acidic refutation from all sides, so I chose merely to say that North King's plan to make us a main forum under Other Games would be very good.

I think the question is though, whether this would cause us to be more moderated by they-who-must-not-be-named.

He also reopened it; and looking back on it, I'd have to agree that there was a lot of spamming going on.
I know that I was banned, and all I had posted were responses to other people's statements, and multiple penguin stories.

Noones even arguing that. (apart from the obvious lack of players=death)

I am saying is that NESing has reaching its optimum player number under these forums conditions, a mod would be unable to cope with a significant increase in players.

More NESers means more NES running, but not more in a single NES

.
If there were an influx of new players, I would open a simple training NES. I believe we have the capacity to accept more players.

I totally agree with that... look at Nuke Nes as Ethiopia ;).
Good times... :D

I'd love some of that.
I repeat my offer of being a target for MSNed questions, if you'll get a Windows Live account.

I think both, that's why I say that keep Modern NESes with only the powerful 30+nations or so. Over like 70 nations makes things problematic. That's why some NESes (one I won't mention) take years to plan! (Which really annoys me...)
It's not hard to tell you're referring to Carmen's project...

I do, wholeheartedly. I have found that in my Moding I make NESes as complex as they are regardless of how many players I have (and, as anyone who participated in my NESes will attest, the level of complexity I maintain is nearly ridiculous). This means that the fewer players I have, the more I have to make up myself, which makes it take much, much longer to write an update. Basically, the more players you have, the less you need to do as a Mod.
I find that leading NPCs is far easier than following PC orders, because NPCs don't complain about your exact interpretation of their actions, and don't send confusing ordersets.

How's that any different than actually just putting the primary link there? That's what a "move" is. It's where the link is displayed. If it doesn't work, we just ask that it be changed back. That's not a compromise, it's what's being proposed, only with a fallback that is unnecessary. If we find that what we're doing isn't working, we just ask Thunderfall to put the link back where it was.

People seem to want to treat this as if we're changing buildings. We're not. We're just altering where the door and signs point.
Yes. I've finished my considerations, and will put my vote in with the 'let's move the forum' camp. If it doesn't work (IE: Cause an influx), then, as Sym said, we can move back.

Given that it has been stated that if things start going awry with the move, we will move back, I have been convinced that it may not be a bad thing. Therefore, I am willing to support it.

That said, even when I was against the move, I still respected Symphony's way of getting things done. This is directed at Abaddon and emu especially. Symph is not the nicest person on the forum, but he does his best to lay things out as they are in a clear and understandable fashion, and given that most of us have our heads in the clouds, we need someone like that.

Finally, if you (not you, Abaddon, the collective "you") reply that I'm somehow sucking up to Symphony, you might just be stupid. A) It wouldn't help me any and, B) we all saw how Lucky's sucking up to Symphony only produced disdain and contempt :p

It was more the case that he feels he has this vast superiority over me.

I have been asked to collect data and once compiled and analysed released to the public. I made the statement this would take a week, and then it would be posted.

I wasn't asking for his opinion on that, nor his acceptance. I was stating it so that people knew when the results would be made.

He then went on a attack saying it would be pointless, even to the point of misquoting me and altering he arguement as I solved the problems he proposed. That is what annoyed me and reduced me to lauding his efforts as he did mine.

Sycophant!

The way he talks (dont be pedantic you know what I mean) he's gotta expect people to get annoyed, he is probably used too it.
