Onan's multisession G&K, Alternate Reality Game (8pm in Auckland, GMT +13)

I've created a steam community group as a meeting point and chat room.

Link: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/multisession/

I think I've invited everyone here, except: calcio, what is your steam name? Mine is kaminonan.

If the system is smart, this may help with scheduling, too.

Hi!

I may be interested in joining the group. I would find what you described quite fun! I am however new to the game, but if you're taking on people still I'd join!

I just noted the time you listed. Would be 9 am my time, which is fine for me yet only on weekends.

But if weekends is the aim for the group, please feel free to add me in Steam. Username is Shamaflamana.

My steam is calcio_ab

Thanks, I meant to ask.

Welcome, Magilicotti! The main thing is that if you start a game with us, you're reliably available to finish it. We will only be playing on weekends, because we love Foffaren. :p

We're starting this Saturday / Friday night PST, with whoever turns up at the right time.

I have scheduled an event for the steam group. The time shows correctly for me--8pm 17 Nov...please check if it also shows correctly for your time zone. Don't trust it if it differs from times discussed in this thread. Hopefully it works though, would make things easier!

Great! It seems like a fun way to spend my morning! I may have a few minutes of running after my 1 year old, but otherwise I can say I can commit to the total time needed. My first Civ online experience, I am highly excited!

Just checking you know: this commitment is for your next 4-8 Saturday mornings. We play for about two hours each session.

The learning curve from SP to MP is steep, and the challenge and excitement greatly increase as well. Common early tactics to be aware of, especially if you have a close neighbour, are using gold to mass upgrade a bunch of units to invade and take cities. In vanilla it was the sword rush, in G&K the comp bow rush is probably the earliest use of this upgrade tactic.

So, diplomacy is very important, especially around early settlement and border disputes. I like to treat people well, but will unload with maximum force if there is even a perceived slight or land grab which puts me in a corner. Just sayin. :D

I think many players in this group including me started their journey of MP in this series of games as well:)

This is a thread at the top of the forum, starting from 6.0, it gives some very good in game advices too. I found it very helpful.

It looks like we will have a big game this time, hope the patch helps us handle it well.

Most of the terminology you speak of, I haven't a clue. If you are telling me that you will be hostile with me if I land grab around you, so be it. I've already explained I am new to these type of experiences. Use that to your advantage if you must. Perhaps I know more than I care to share. Let's find out!

Great, I guess Tab is happy to hear that new players won't get angry if they are early rushed. ;)

It means that he will attack you very early on, and if you are not used to multiplayer you wont know what hit you. Trust me. I know all about that. Like Onan said, learning curve is steep and its really painful the first few times, even when they are nice to you!

And dont trust EEE. Never ever trust EEE.

That's why I said it would be countered. I may be new at this, but I do enter with what knowledge is available.

Yes, hopefully the patch helps the bigger game...sounds like it does. Hmn, I wonder if the first game of this series way back when was one of Tab's first MP games.

Mag, I come in peace, but I carry a stick of dynamite. I quite enjoy diplomacy and exploring the cooperative part of the game, since war gets pretty old, and is always a waste.

I laughed really loud about Foff's comment about E. :D

Edit: I would add, only trust if you have to; otherwise have a back up plan. Realpolitik is a nasty business. On the other hand, a little trust that grows into a lot of trust can go a long way....

Nah E is fine, he usually gives you ample warning when he's about to crush you. Then he's like a kid with a magnifying glass. You are the ant ofcourse. And you burn. And it hurts.

Can you tell he's broken my heart many a time?

I remember when I felt like that. I thought I did good at first aswell. Then I ran into a wall. You might make it, or you might not, but I'm here to tell you its nothing like an AI rush in single player.
Focusing on science will get you bullied quickly, focusing on military will get you outteched and bullied by smarter civs. Its a balancing act and it takes a few games to get it, but you will. You will.

I still have games where the balance fails, and everything crumbles.

Can you tell he's broken my heart many a time?

I only recall after breaking your heart, my heart broke as well, either by bombers or nukes, so I will try not to break your heart this time.

I wonder how no fixed victory condition will help. People may not care about long term goal of winning first but focus on settling local dispute first. Or it may help the players who got sandwiched in the middle establish long term alliance. Looking forward to seeing how the game evolves.

You break my heart because you win. Every. Single. Time.
It's just rude.

I belive the game can work very well if everyone enters with the notion that it is a game that doesnt end, and because we are all together here in the forums, I think they will.
