One Last Roll of the Dice

PFT

Only some minor tweaks to cities. It's all looking lovely;)

1

IBT, Wang invites us to DoW on Spain. I seriously think about it but decide its a bad idea!

GG makes Med3.

2

We KO the Mongles! Sadly I forgot the screen

I know we never discussed this but Rheims starts the Pentagon.

I make a trade with Wang for gold.

Just some general play going on here....

Civ4ScreenShot0026.jpg

I switch to Arty and set the slider to sci 0%

Paris is lossing food due to health so I start a Public Transport system.

My first smoke of the set here. I realised I hadn't sstarted to Drill the Oil! I start this.

5

....and another one bites the dust.....

The Otterman Empire is no more.

6

We get this event and get the max reward.

Some beakers in DR is nice but not that important.

By far the most exiting thing is we switch to US and an era ends :( However I go on a spending spree that was quite enjoyable

7

Spending money......

8

The AP vote comes up and I vote for us.

9

Rather unsuprisingly we win the AP vote.

I DoW Sury the rude way by just sending the gunships in Old school style :ar15:

I think I may have set sci to 20% this turn.

10

Some final tweaks like trying to sign new cities etc.

So in this set my main aims were to carry on building production, including using workers to rail road mines etc as priority. I have started a rail way route from Paris towards our Otterman lands and the rally point there. All t he production centres need linking before our commerce cities IMO.

I started a few barrack (and brought some) in our commerce cities as we're going to buy troops there. I doubt all commerce cities need these they could build gold or sci instead.

I don't really understad why I upped sci to 20%. I guess I was trying to stay at around 1000 gold a turn to cover spending whilst still helping Arty along. To help our tech I put lots of specs as sci specs. I I miss REP :(

A bit.

There is a settler pod on route to the P?spot for a production/lumber city. Buy a couple of workers before any buildings! DO NOT CHOP

Check some of myfood counts in terms of farms to WS before you act on these. Also our new city specs.

After Arty run to tanks (Elec > Ind)?

Need to chec our troop arragments. I think both Med3 are in the same stack. My bad.

I guess we hit Izzy when we have a few more destroyers and transports. Upgrade old boats.

Ummmm.

The Roster

grandad1982
Cam H - up now
Admiral Kutzov - on deck
Meiz

The save is here.

Great set once again :D

It's probably quite clear that we should kill Sury, take cities from Isabella (including Madrid) until she will capitulate -> repeat for Churchill and Wang. Should be over quite quickly, either with domination from our vassal lands or by conquest for vassalazing everyone. The bigger our power graph is, the easier they will capitulate, so I would just forget banks etc. and build / buy a lot of troops. We probably don't even need to care about Churchills islands. Just drop a big stack on his main continent.

I don't think we have any need for artillery or tanks. We are fighting against muskets and longbowmen! They don't even have RP researched! :D

Edit: Ok, Churchill has grenadiers... But we have infantry, so what do we care? :)

Summary

Suryavarman's gone.

Isabella's willing to capitulate. We've taken four cities including Madrid, and she's really on the ropes. I'd suggest that we keep going and take Seville, just to get Spain off that landmass before we vassalise it, but the option for 'pure' conquest is still there (even though it would be dragging the whole thing out). I bribed Wang Kon into the war (600:gold: and War with Isabella for Democracy) which has kept him at Pleased. With so many coastal cities and most of the empire on the same continent where we've got the bulk of our army, taking England should be pretty straight forward.

Golden Age in 5 turns unless we're really unlucky and pop a Great Prophet (9% chance).

We also have a spare Great General. Cities with a settled Military Instructor are putting out 7XP units (1XP short of Level 4) with the aid of The Pentagon. As such, we could merge him into Rheims or Vandal for Level 4 units out of the box. We could otherwise attach him to a City Raider III Infantry or make a third super-Medic? Does it really matter?

In terms of micro; we're missing a few Work Boats incl. the opportunity for Whales. Some of the builds in undeveloped cities could be cash rushed. I've settled a junk ice city that's near Oil, that will free up the Oil tile near Tours that can go back to Farming (chain irrigation to Grenoble). There's some Workers headed to Poitiers to build a Well. Cherbourg's borders will pop next turn, and we can put the Engineer to work - indeed we could cash rush that Work Boat. There's a little bit of war weariness creeping in.

Opening Turn | Turn 375 | 1730AD

Turn 5 | Turn 380 | 1740AD

Marseilles finishes the Security Bureau and runs maximum Spies, Merchants, and Artists.
Cherbourg gets its Forge hurried for the Sistine Chapel supported Engineer.

Units are still out of position, however we still have enough on hand to make a dent in Spain;

lrod_declare_isabella.jpg

… and we sell Democracy to Korea for 600:gold: and a declaration of War against Spain.

We capture a shiny new city; Valladolid … so new it gets auto-razed;

We also found Poitiers, an ice city there for the Oil. We have a Worker party heading that way to build and hook up its Oil, allowing Tours’ Oil to be Farmed again when complete.

Lovely play Cam H! I agree we should push Spain off of that continent before we consider vasillising.

I know we're all geared for war with Churchill but I keep thinking of WW2 and the help offered to De Gualle by Churchill and I think attacking him is unkind!!!

Looks like we just keep on as we are ATM and the game is ours. That power graph is hilarious!

Not sure refarming the oil is worth it to be honest. Its always good to have a back up.

What do people think of sprinting up to tanks just for fun? I know Admiral would like this too.

I should have settled on the Oil rather than beside it.

Tanks for fun and profit? Dunno ... seems 'really unrequired'.

If you want to go after Wang instead of Churchill, that's OK, but I think Churchill now is by far the more accessible target (albeit he will have better units and will draft Muskets). Destroyers can take out the city defences, and Infantry can go head-to-head with the garrisons if you haven't got Cannons at hand.

You might need to orient yourself a bit to where our stacks are, and maybe after Seville spend a turn or two just regrouping. There are three mini-SoDs in naval groups (one of which has injured troops), and there's a group of six Infantry south west of Barcelona that I had heading towards Seville. There are also miscellaneous Infantry in our core empire working their way to the two rally points.

The Golden Age that's 91%-92% likely will give you heaps of dough for cash rushing whatever extra troops you feel you might need.

Well, I pushed. Didn't consolidate at all. Felt we had enough units to finish (even disbanded a few). Very sloppy set, but I had fun. I did manage to make vassals of Izzy and Winnie (oops how did that happen?) No need to set up. Just go on Wang. We'll win as soon as the cities come out of rebellion and pop. We have plenty of units to finish this. Winnie and Izzy are a bunch of islands

It was a bit easy, but great and fun game nevertheless. Was fun playing with you all :)

Now off to wait Civ 5! :D

Woot! We have a winner!!!!

I enjoyed playing with you guys and I'm pleased we got this done before Civ5 hits the town!

Are any of you getting Civ5 on or near release day? I'm possibly getting it for my Birthday. What I'm getting at is would any of you be interested in an early doors Civ5 SG if I was to set one up some time in late september/october?

Again nice play everyone and thanks for the fun times ;)

Thanks for the offer, but I'll probably try to get a real hang of the game with single player, before joining :)

So your saying its a good idea to be able to play the game before making a fool of yourself? This is not a stratagy I'm familiar with
