One Problem seems to be fixed....Now Another!!!!

Well, after pulling my hair out, and unloading and reloading drivers for 5 days, I finally got rid of the Renderer error.

I am one of the lucky/unlucky individuals that have an ATI Radeon 9600 series video card.

What I finally did to get rid of the Renderer error is use the Unpak file that was posted in another thread for Win2k. Followed the directions, and Wow! The renderer error dissappeared.

But NOW the game starts with the black screen like before, then instead of the renderer error popping up, I get booted back to the desktop!!!!!

Is anyone else having this problem? Any possible fixes? If the fix is to reload, I think I will just UNLOAD and pack this crap up and take it back to Gamestop!!!

I am just shocked that they would release something this buggy, and I used to really knock EA for the crap they do with Ultima Online....At least their dang game loads!

Don't post that the game is bugy, or that Firaxis/2k didn't do a good job testing the game. It attracts the forum trolls.

On the other hand, lots of people are reporting crashes. Not so many like yours though. Can you post any Civ 4 log files that look interesting. I'm sure that you've updated your drivers to the latest versions, but make sure. People are also asking for attached copies of you dxdiag results.

Well, now I have actually loaded the game thanks to the other site!

Here is my fix!

Find your cache directory.
Delete the directory.
Restart the Game.

You will find it in your

C:\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Application Data\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4

This is with Windows 2000.


The Administrators might want to post this fix as a sticky for those that finally fix the renderer issue.

Now lets see how many other bugs I find!

That's wierd. It must be saving some config info that doesn't get updated properly.

Boy am I dreading the problems I'll have with my Radeon 9550.

Obviously the problems are far too numerous. Now we know where the FEMA director landed...
