Online petition for an updated Civ III editor

I just read a little of the petition, and I must say there are some great ideas! For example, I really like the idea of being able to have more than one leader per civ (I'm attemting to convert the Civ2 TOT scifi game for Civ3, and it's kind of hard for me to choose just one leader for each faction), and being able to add culture groups (For example, if I could have all the normal ones, plus aliens). There were a lot of other great ideas, too. Too many to really take in...:confused:
I have one idea of my own... I don't know if this is even possible, really... but I think it would be great if you could make more than one map for one scenario (to represent more than one planet), and each one could have its own terrain and resources, like in TOT (given that I'm working on converting TWO mods from TOT, that would help a lot). Though it's probably out of the question, because a) SWEEPING CHANGES would have to be made to the editor, and probably also to the game itself. And b) it would probably slow the game down. It may have worked with Civ2, but Civ3's much more advanced. It may be too much. :dunno:

I think the editor should be streamlined so people don't have to go to all the trouble with writing the civilopedia from outside the editor, you should be able to write entries in the editor and have it program the civilopedia itself. The techs should also be able to be dragged and dropped as opposed to coordinates. In short, the editor has to move into the Graphical User Interface (GUI) so that everybody can make high quality scenarios.

HEY! I just learned what a GUI is!! Now I understand even more! And yes, it definitely needs that!

I am in complete support of this, if they ever even look at this site\thread\posts. :sad:

Maybe we can't get them to change Civ III, but we can always bug them to put all this in Civ V! How's that?

I don't really know what a GUI is, but I think these are great ideas. :agree:

No announcement, but I'm willing to bet fifty dollars that they will make a civ V.

Yeah, I imagine they probably will eventually.
Hmmm... I wonder what kind of computer it would take to run Civ V... probably some kind of SUPER-COMPUTER. Maybe the reason they haven't started it yet is because it'll be so advanced, almost nobody can meet the system requirements.

Oz - Yes, that's Civ Revolution. :)

Interesting. I always imagine the typical console afficianado as being more into FPSs than turn-based strategy (then again, I could be being overly influenced by my 13-year-old nephew).

Best,

Oz

There's just a couple problems with waiting for a later version.
a) They're just going to get harder to mod as they get more advanced; I mean, in Civ 4, practically everything's animated.
b) Not everyone can run the later versions. My computer won't run Civ 4, so there's no way Civ 5 would work. And I'm sure lots of people are working with older, more outdated computers than mine.
So, while I'm sure that the newer versions will be fabulous, I, personally, would like to see an upated Civ 3, if possible. Also, I think it should be an expansion rather than a separate thing, because I'd prefer not to have to uninstall the game and then reinstall it, if possible.

@EmpressOfNona

A GUI is like buttons, the start menu, heck even icons, and all that jazz.

@Everybody Else

Yes, a revamped Civ3 would be something I would KILL for. Civ3 is the best of all. Civ4 has too much useless stuff in it, and all the moving things just screw the pooch for lower-end systems. Plus it's very hard to differentiate between different terrain types. Finally, the new build, unit order, unit choosing interface is far less useful for doing stuff than the right-click menu. On the bright side, python programmers can mod it very easily. But do you know many python modders? I didn't think so.:)

Here's a thought; it seems that Civ IV is really popular amongst Civ II veterans who didn't really like Civ III; so is Civ V going to be popular amongst we Civ III veterans who don't really like Civ IV?

I really think that whilst in some ways Civ IV is more moddable and there are some things that are really good - e.g. as many leaders as you like per civ, as many civs as you like in the mix - there's not yet, two years on, the facility to make your own original animated leaderheads. Moreover, there's not the same variance with units - the mere fact that, for example, povray can't be used deprives us of two of the most talented unit makers around (I'm talking about aaglo and Orthanc).
