Optomist, Pessimist, or somewhere in between?

Pessimists don't fear the worst; they expect the worst, thereby eliminating the fear because they don't get any uncomfortable surprises.
I can't understand how the feeling of "see, I just knew this will turn out bad" is better than a uncomfortable surprise. at least I had a happy time before the feces hit the fan :)

I'm something of a pessimist. I don't want bad things to happen, but I expect them to and prepare for them. KaeptnOvi may have had a fun time before it hit the fan, but now he is picking crap out of his eyes while I closed mine before it hit. ;)

There's no link between besserwissen and pessimism. Remember that low expectations will also lead to positive surprises that surpass your negative expectations.

I am at times optimistic and other times pessimistic, so i cannot refer myself as any such terms. If there is a word to describe me, it is being annoyed, it is my amour against the world and it actually works very well! Music and certain rhytm makes my annoyance goes away so its not too bad.

ok, my quote sure sounded a bit "Besserwisserisch", what I meant is that I can't see how you can draw comfort from the fact that you expected bad stuff to happen. In the end, you're in the same position as me, so I wouldn't say that you're better off ;)

of course, I'm not a unrealistic optimist. I do have insurances, in case something unexpected bad happens, I do take precautions where I deem it necessary, and I don't expect Switzerland to win the WC ;). But when all precautions are taken and the outcome is unknown, I usually assume that it'll turn out all right :)

Intentional optimist.
I find perpetual pessimists annoying.
They give up before trying, because "it won't work anyway". FFS.

Both.

Ultimately, I believe I'm going to Heaven. So in that way, I guess I'm an optimist. But when it comes to everyday dealings, and my opinion about mankind as a whole, I'm something of a pessimist. So it depends on the subject really.

I'm a "don't take things so seriously, life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming wow, what a ride optimist".

On a "world level," I'm rather pesimistic most of the time because I think it is realistic. I think that people are evil and destructive by nature (myself included) and I think that most of us simply want to better our own situation rather than make a positive contribution to society as a whole.

On a personal level, I would argue that I'm neither pessimistic nor optimistic. I always consider the most extreme negative and positive scenarios I can concieve in any situation I am presented with. I then weigh the risks against what I can "afford" to lose and make choices based on that.

I don't know really. I think that things can go bad when I'm in a nervy situation sometimes, and in a great situation I'm aware of that, there's no overwhelming predilection towards one thought process really.
